Building sovereign orbital infrastructure @Exosat_, fmrly founded @AetheroSpace

I’ve joined @ycombinator to build @Exosat_ As the world becomes more multipolar, enterprises and governments are nervous about dependence on Starlink or Chinese state-owned satellites for critical network infrastructure Meanwhile, much of the world still has no reliable connectivity and other providers face years of delay and need millions of dollars just to build a single satellite Exosat is filling that need by designing satellites with zero ITAR/EAR-controlled content, enabling us to leverage manufacturers anywhere in the world to produce our satellites at under a tenth of the cost and launch them from other nations to bypass capacity bottlenecks and access equatorial orbits We launch our first in-house satellite next April, have hundreds of millions of dollars in Letters of Intent with early partners across six nations, and have a ITU spectrum filing for 11,000 satellites to build the largest space-based cellular network outside of the United States and China

Hong Kong is a ridiculously photogenic city. Easily one of my favorite cities in the world now.

I have actually heard of founders wiping revenue from their pitch decks or being advised to not mention revenue if it’s not 7-figs Good for them I suppose? Market’s hot and I find it hard to sympathize with the FOMO-type investors who fall for this stuff anyways
should I be offended by this

How real an LOI is ranges entirely from “my friend signed it for me as a favor” to “we signed it on cream card stock print out over a tea ceremony and photoshoot” with it getting realer and realer with more rituals

“Why must there be alternatives to Starlink? Why does @Exosat_ need to exist? I’ve heard this from a lot of people, and this exact sort of scenario is why. Starlink is a wondrous piece of technology, but if it can be cut off at any time by outside players, then, well…

Flew to New Zealand and discovered that toilets don’t flush the other way here as advertised. Very disappointing. 0/10.

Malfoid content has flooded my X feed so thoroughly that I no longer have any clue what is going on in the broader startup world. Did some AI startup raise a $50M Series C? Did Musk say something? What is [insert VC name] getting dunked on for? Just no clue. I like it in here.

Congratulations to Europe for successfully creating a 1:1 replica of Microsoft Teams!
The European Commission has rolled out an alternative to Microsoft Teams. But officials using it aren't impressed, with one describing the tool as “absolute shit.” vist.ly/5kje9

Even Nokia is on the sovereignty train! If a foreign government can shut down your satellites at any time, that’s not your infrastructure 🛰️
BREAKING: Nokia $NOK and ICEYE are teaming up to build sovereign low-Earth-orbit satellite networks for governments and militaries. The goal is to give countries their own space-based communications infrastructure rather than relying entirely on foreign commercial constellations. The system will combine ICEYE spacecraft with Nokia communications technology for missions ranging from military and border security to emergency response and disaster relief. The companies say customers will be able to own and control the satellites, ground infrastructure and terminals themselves. First satellites are targeted for launch in 2028. The move puts two major European technology companies into the race to provide secure government LEO networks as countries look for alternatives and complements to systems such as SpaceX’s Starlink.

Speaking to officials in [middle power] about their space agency, and apparently the sole focus of said space agency is developing regulations to register satellites which will take 3 years to finish Oh dear

After my first abortive try at a startup, I went back to college for two semesters and got straight Cs because I had the founder bug and was burning all my time on side quests Dropped out a second time to do my first real startup (Aethero) and never looked back
Don't start a startup expecting you'll go to college (or back to college) afterward. Those two paths are incompatible, and you're lying to yourself if you try to pretend otherwise.

Even if you could go back, you wouldn’t like it. Dropping out to do a startup is psychologically a one-way street.

I’ve always wondered about doing this in the Venusian stratosphere with acidophilic microbes that consume CO2 and replace it with oxygen Carl Sagan proposed it in the 60s Instead of only two habitable worlds in the solar system, why not three?
Today, Pioneer Labs is announcing our first step towards terraforming Mars. 🚀🌼 With equipment that fits in just a single rocket launch, we can convert Martian dirt, water, and air into enough building materials to construct a small city on Mars. To do it, we made the first microbe for Mars. We found the best microbe on Earth and used evolution to teach it how to source all of its nutrients directly from Martian materials. The first astronauts will be greeted with safe shelter already filled with water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the return journey. This is the first step toward using biology to make Mars a friendly place for life. It lets us live off the land and helps us build the next great frontier. It's the first of five organisms we need to green Mars ⬇️

Those who compete with SpaceX respect Musk and consider SpaceX to be the measuring stick to compare themselves against Even engineers I’ve met in the rival Chinese space ecosystem speak of Musk and SpaceX with reverence Only unserious players disrespect the OGs!
Accurate. In the next 3 years we’ll find out if all the folks who talk shit about SpaceX can actually build anything themselves Games on!
