Grateful to @KimKardashian for using her platform to advocate for my legislation, the Safer Supervision Act. Your support brings vital attention to the need for meaningful reforms in our federal supervision system, that impact so many.
It broke my heart to read that people on supervision are so terrified of making a minor mistake that they won't even leave their house. But this new poll gives me so much hope: 79% of Americans agree we can do better with the #SaferSupervisionAct

Replying to @KimKardashian
Thank you, @KimKardashian, for lifting this up. People on supervision shouldn’t fear leaving their homes. Federal supervision must support stability, work, and family, NOT punish minor mistakes. This new poll shows the nation is ready for the #SaferSupervisionAct. Add your name to support this bill: safersupervision.com/petitio…

✅ 79% of voters back the Safer Supervision Act. New national polling data from @FabrizioWard proves what we already know. Americans across the political spectrum agree that it's time to fix federal supervision. Supervision should be about safety, stability, and second chances, not keeping people trapped in the system. 🔗 Read more about the findings and what they mean. tr.ee/H7xSoVPzas #SaferSupervisionAct

Ivan Cantu was executed. Someone I believe is an innocent man. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones and everyone involved 💔
Texas executed Ivan Cantu tonight, despite new evidence raising serious questions around his conviction. Capital punishment disproportionately preys on the most vulnerable members of our society and fails to live up to its promise of keeping our communities safe.

🚨 THE STATE WILL EXECUTE IVAN CANTU TODAY 🚨 Texas Gov Greg Abbott is last resort for 30 day reprieve for Ivan CANTU, set to die TODAY. Urge him to use his power to allow time for new evidence in Ivan’s case to be evaluated, lest Texas execute a wrongfully convicted man. Urge the Gov to grant a 30 day reprieve NOW Text this number 668366 write SAVE in message.
I heard about Ivan Cantu’s case from Sister Helen Prejean and was really moved by it. In 2001, Ivan was convicted of killing his cousin, James Mosqueda, and his fiancée, Amy Kitchen. Ivan has always maintained his innocence claiming that the rival drug dealer framed him for the murders. There was false testimony by the State’s star witnesses who later recanted their statements and evidence withheld by the prosecution that would be extremely impactful. Even the jurors want to help now and support Ivan’s appeals, believing they did not hear all the evidence at trial. In April, 2023, a judge canceled Ivan’s scheduled execution when the defense filed an appeal about false testimony and new evidence. But later that year the execution was rescheduled and he is set to die on February 28, 2024. HOW YOU CAN HELP- Texas now has a conviction integrity unit. The prosecutors offices are beginning to recognize that there are a lot of mistakes in convictions. They encourage you to write into their integrity units about specific cases, so I am encouraging everyone to write in about the case of Ivan Cantu. The time to act to save Ivan Cantu is now! ivancantu.org/act/

Philip Esformes was convicted of 20 charges equaling $170k. The judge then used those charges along with charges a jury found him NOT guilty of and sentenced him to 20 years in prison and 43 million dollars in restitution and criminal asset forfeiture.

Proud of my sister @edyhaney @kimkardashian & @jessicajackson for the work they do to fight for justice reform and work with others to help free the innocent and wrongly incarcerated. And for all three of them for being such great moms. Happy birthday Jessica!

this story is hard to believe and sadly, not hard to believe @GovernorTomWolf @jaketapper
For 2+ years I’ve been researching the case of CJ Rice, whom my pediatrician dad says was physically incapable of committing the crime for which he’s doing up to 60 years in prison… The injustice is actually much worse than I thought: theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

Today, I had the honor of presenting a proclamation of wrongful conviction to the only living sister of Alexander McClay Williams on behalf of @GovernorTomWolf. PA executed 16 year-old Alexander - a child - in 1931 for the murder of Ms. Vida Robare, which he did not commit.

Very excited to be posting @jaketapper’s first cover story for @TheAtlantic tomorrow morning. It’s a mesmerizing and maddening investigation of a miscarriage of justice.

Probation should never be used to silence people 🙅🏻‍♀️🚫This brave mom says she was threatened with a probation violation for publicly telling her story of begging the police to move into her sons’ classrooms to stop the active shooter in #uvalde. @REFORM
