Love this opportunity and collaboration between specialists, teachers, and students. In fifth grade, we explore the concept of leap year and day with both math, communication, questioning, and language of the discipline through a #socraticseminar #teamwork @vbschools

Fun activity in math. The students graphed the shape of their breakfast food. Was your breakfast food a circle, rectangle, square, or triangle? @ElemMathCoach @vbmathjohanna @TESSeagulls

Mathematics. This "simple problem" for kids is sure to stump many adults. Can you figure out the height of the table? tinyurl.com/y96t7bzr

2nd grade had their first math congress. High ceiling math problems and a system that promotes growth mindset and collaboration. Students embraced errors and math revisions. Much joy! @vbmathjohanna @MissSeretis @TESSeagulls @VBGifted @MBH_Lead2Learn @mmthomps @MrsCollardVBCPS

Penny, nickel, dime is a great game to practice counting up coins. Have your child show you how to play at home. Directions will be sent home today. Lots of variations to challenge. Thanks math coach ⁦@MissSeretis⁩

Agreed! Most useful courses I took in college? Coding in assembly language and statistics. I also took high-end math courses but never used them. 2 most useful tools in my 50+ years as an entrepreneur? Excel and PowerPoint. By a mile!
Replying to @gregtangmath
Even with standards that don’t specify an algorithm, it is still being taught as the end all be all. Even w teaching the why w base 10 & expanded notation, more mental math should be encouraged for 2-3 digits. I agree this particular problem has excel written all over it 😅
