Despite guideline recommendations, post-discharge venous thromboembolism prophylaxis remains uncommon after thoracic cancer operation.
Among 157,619 patients, only 1.5% received prophylaxis after lung resection and 11.2% after esophagectomy. Substantial variation persists across providers and health systems.

Frailty is associated with higher mortality after pancreatectomy, but not necessarily because frail patients are less likely to survive complication.
In a national study of 71,104 patients undergoing pancreatectomy, postoperative complication explained 80.7% of the association between frailty and 30-day mortality.
