The writing on a fur-covered keyboard actually had an end result. Very pleased that this will be out soon.

Here's some news. For those who like that sort of thing, in the next few weeks I'll be publishing a new book of short stories, titled "Deep Waters: Ten More Tales from Norfolk and Beyond" — slightly eerie stories, full of a sense of place, and alert to the deep currents of history flowing everywhere around us.

Barack Obama at his last press briefing with reporters, 2017:
"I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants. You're supposed to be skeptics. You're supposed to ask me tough questions. You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power."

I’m sure Andy Burnham is being true to himself and setting out his stall etc., but is devolution really the big issue facing the UK at the moment? I can safely say we get absolutely no benefit whatsoever from additional layers of local government here in rural Northumberland.

This scene in "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (1949) where 6 members of the D'Ascoyne's family, all played by Sir Alec Guinness, are seen together, took 2 days to film. The camera was set on a specially built platform to minimize movement. In addition, the camera operator spent the night with the camera to ensure that nothing moved it by accident.
A frame with six black matte painted optical flat glass windows was set in front of the camera, and the windows opened one at a time so each of the characters could be filmed in turn. The film was then wound back for the next character. Most of the time was spent waiting for Guinness to be made up as the next character.

P.S: 1) On this day, 77 years ago, Robert Hamer's "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (1949) premiered in London, U.K.
2) Remembering the great British actor, Dennis Price, on his 111th birthday!
Ordered two items from Amazon (as a Prime customer) and guess what? They are being ‘delivered’ by Evri. Both items should’ve been delivered today, one now supposed to be coming on 19th (‘or let us know if you don’t get it then’) and the other now 21st. Hopeless delivery company.

John Eric Bartholomew, AKA Eric Morecambe, was born 100 years ago today.
Few people in history have made as many people laugh as Eric, and as someone whose life was dedicated to that purpose, I am sure it is an accolade he would have been incredibly proud of.
For me, Eric’s brilliance lay not just in the laughter he created, but in the anticipation of the laughter to come. That gift was omnipresent, following him like a comedic halo. To see him was to smile instinctively, followed quickly by genuine laughter. His friend Tommy Cooper possessed that same rare quality, and I have many treasured memories of watching them both when I was young.
Thanks to social media, Eric’s work continues to be enjoyed by millions worldwide every day, and appreciation for his immense talent only grows. Long may that continue.
Here he is, with Ernie and Mr Preview, creating some 22 karat TV comedy gold.
God bless Eric Morecambe x

Not sure I’ll be going to @LidlGB again. Updated new app gives me 1 point for every £1 spent. Spend £100 and get a free cucumber! I knew your proposed changes were going to be bad news so I’m not surprised. 👋

There is no military objective that justifies the wholesale destruction of a society's infrastructure or the deliberate infliction of suffering on civilian populations.
Conflicts end when leaders choose dialogue over destruction, @antonioguterres says.
