A tale as old as time: rapist with a sporting talent given a free pass so he can continue his professional career.
Dutch volleyball player Steven Van de Velde admitted three counts of rape 12-year-old British girl in 2016, was sentenced to just 4 years, then allowed to return to the Netherlands to complete his sentence, only to be released in 2017 after serving just ONE YEAR.
Upon release, Van de Velde said: "I have been branded as a sex monster, as a paedophile. That I am not, really not."
He quite literally is a paedophile rapist and now he's a paedophile rapist going to the Paris Olympics...

Actually speechless at the decision by the BBC to employ Nick Kyrgios as a Wimbledon pundit. The same man who pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend last year, who said of Andrew Tate he was "speaking facts as usual". What message does this send @BBC? telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2024/…

Our thoughts are with Georgia Harrison and other survivors affected by image-based sexual abuse crimes today. Seeing perpetrators, like Stephen Bear, being released early only serves to reinforce the perception that #VAWG is not taken seriously: ow.ly/JR1Q50QrHc8

Dear BBC.
Please stop framing Oscar Pistorius as this fascinating man with this Shakespearian tragic arc we must all ponder in awe.
He murdered Reeva Steenkamp, law graduate, campaigner, successful model, a woman with a future which he stole, when he shot her 13 times.

Yesterday MPs from all parties spoke out against Gov plans to criminalise rough sleeping by the back door.
No one should be punished for being homeless.
These laws must be removed. We're grateful to see such a strong message from MPs for people to be supported not criminalised.

2/4 In the last 12 months, in London, there’s been a 29% increase in people experiencing their first night on the streets. This is a consequence of poverty - and poverty in this country has been exacerbated by policy choices. crisis.org.uk/about-us/media…

Sleeping on the streets is not a lifestyle choice. We don’t have nearly enough affordable homes & rents are soaring, leaving people destitute and forced to sleep rough. [🧵1/4] ft.com/content/ccf9c260-a98a…

If Zara Aleena's killer is successfully going to get his sentence reduced because he beat her unconscious before some of the sexual assaults, what does that say about our justice system? He attacked her, sexually assaulted her- he murdered her. If he doesn't serve life, who does?

The way these men view the legal age of consent as “the youngest person you can have sex with without going to jail” instead of “the age at which teenagers should be legally allowed to explore sex” tells you *absolutely everything* you need to know.
