YOU CAN'T END INSTITUTIONAL CORRUPTION IN UGANDA BY TARGETING ONLY THE LOWEST CADRE STAFF: In as much as we applaud the new cabinet for attempting to address the corruption cancer that has grossly affected public service delivery, it is important to note that Corruption in Uganda is endemic, it is soo deeply rooted in institutions right from the Ministry to the lowest cadre that just targeting the lowest cadre staff like Headteachers, Heads of Health Centres, contractors etc may not sufficiently address the corruption cancer. Addressing corruption in Uganda requires institutional reforms that strengthen transparency, accountability and enforcement at every level rather than just action against junior officials. Forexample if the Anti-Corruption efforts only focus on arresting a headteacher of a school while leaving a corrupt district service commission, corrupt District Education officer, corrupt School Inspector, corrupt Ministry Commissioners and incompetent School Management Committees and Board of Governors untouched, institutional corruption won't be addressed. The corrupt system will still recruit a corrupt headteacher because most of these Headteachers steal with full blessing of their immidiate supervisors who share the proceeds of corruption. A relevant example is what was happening in the Parliament of Uganda where junior staff were stealing money with the blessing of the Speaker. Forexample we know that in Uganda before a contractor wins a tender, the Procurement Committee and the Head of the Procuring entity must first recieve bribes and must also have a percentage on the Procurement sum. Sometimes contractors receive less than the contracted sum and therefore cannot be able to complete contracts. This is why terminating a road contractor without holding the entire Ministry of Works and Transport/procuring entity accountable may not sufficiently address the institutional corruption within the procuring entity. If forexample the government prioritises higher payments for politicians like Mps than investing in the health sector and a hospital receives less supplies, if the doctors are paid poorly, if the medical interns aren't remunerated, if the hospital lacks sufficient infrastructure to address the patients' demands, if a hospital lacks basic equipment etc, arresting a hospital Supritendant for poor service delivery may not address the problem of poor service delivery in the health sector. Therefore in order to address the cancer of corruption, the Ministers should mostly focus on systemic institutional reforms not just individual arrests. They should enforce accountability at all levels, increase transparency, improve internal controls, apply consistent sanctions and set the tone from the top at Ministry level. Otherwise special thanks to the individual ministers who are endeavouring to fight corruption. Ugandans are very hopeful.

YOU CANNOT TEACH CHEMISTRY ON A BUDGET OF 644 SHILLINGS A DAY! The Ministry of Education centrally supplies "free" textbooks and basic science kits, but they forget that laboratories require constant water, electricity, apparatus replacements, and safety equipment. A USE grant of UGX 19,300 a month cannot maintain a functioning modern science lab. When the cash is gone, continuous assessment under the new curriculum becomes a practical impossibility for struggling rural institutions. @BalaamBarugahar, are our children supposed to perform chemistry experiments using purely spiritual intervention, or do you expect headteachers to print mock exams on blank leaves?

"Ban school tours" I don't know why as Ugandans, our default settings to solving problems is calling for a ban. We all grew up going for school tours in 2nd terms. How about you call for regulations like distances, why are you taking 4-13yr olds to kapchorwa?

🕊️ Sauti 116 Stands with Uganda 💙 There are moments that stop us in our tracks. Moments that remind us how fragile and precious life truly is. Today we carry heavy hearts as we mourn the lives lost in the tragic accident in Kapchorwa involving children and staff of King David School. Children who woke up that morning with dreams. Families who were waiting for them to come home. A community that will never be the same again. 💔 To every family grieving today you are not alone in this pain. 🙏 To the brave first responders, the residents and emergency teams who rushed to the scene without hesitation Uganda sees your sacrifice and we are grateful. 🇺🇬 And to those still fighting for recovery in hospital we are praying for you. Every single one of you. 💙 May God comfort every broken heart. May He bind every wound seen and unseen. And may He grant rest to every precious soul we have lost. 🕊️ @Mglsd_UG @MercyLakiskis @Educ_SportsUg #Sauti116 #KingDavidSchool #Kapchorwa #Uganda #PrayForUganda #GodComfortUs 🕊️🇺🇬

The Bobi Highway Tragedy is not an accident. It is another price paid for the Museveni government’s 4 decades of neglect on road safety. Until we audit the funds, fix the roads & hold duty-bearers accountable, Ugandans will continue to die on roads that were meant to serve them.

In a country with a serious government, these three individuals @AAgather, @SpireJim and @GodwinTOKO would be awarded national honours for opening the lid and blowing the whistle on the grand corruption that was taking place in Parliament. I can't help but remember the kind of vitriol they received from regime apologists for releasing details of shocking transactions of billions landing on personal accounts. At the highest level, they were branded traitors and agents of foreigners. Today, the same facts they revealed are stated in court documents. Even when the regime continues to harass them for their work, this moment provides all of us a lesson that when you remain consistent at doing the right thing, you'll most certainly be vindicated at the right time.

Hey @ntvuganda, thanks for the improvisation! Though I hope you're putting in place extra security measures for your reporters – there's a very big possibility that the regime will attempt to go after them individually for 'violating the ban'.
