Connecticut pays the full cost of #teacherpensions for districts, but doesn’t factor that into school funding. So students in some districts get less than others. equable.org/brief-connecticu… For example, @OrangeCTBOE gets more per pupil pension subsidies than nearby Ansonia—and produces better student outcomes. @KaraRochelleCT @Cabrera4CT

State and local pension funds have a variety of different ways they deal with cost of living adjustments. Out of 372 state and local plans, 98 had no cost-of-living-adjustment rules according data analyzed by @EquableNow ow.ly/sJzT50KbNig

Texas teacher retirement benefits would rank higher — and, more importantly, provide better benefits to teachers — if there was at least the option for a pension plan that had cost-of-living adjustments ("COLAs") built in from the start.

We think the 13th checks paid out to retired teachers have been great. But the problem is they can’t be counted on and are at the political whims of the legislature. That isn’t real inflation protection for Texas teachers.
In Ed's story, I'm quoted that @EquableNow study doesn't take account that we gave a 13th monthly check out to retirees. In last 3 yrs we have done it twice, it avg out 5.5+% per yr as study insisted on having a COLA. Hearst title wrong, TX would place much higher! #txed #Txlege
