"The drop in U.S. gas availability so far this week was the most in over a year, with supplies on track to fall by around 9.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) from Jan. 8-14 to an estimated 11-month low of 98.6 bcfd on Jan. 14, according to data from financial firm LSEG."

It's gonna be cold in Texas, y'all. Qs on my mind:
1) will the natgas system freeze up (like in 2021, 2022, 2023,...)
2) will it be wet (probably not)
3) will it be windy (probably)
4) will peak electric demand in ERCOT >> summer peak b/c of heating + data centers (maybe!)

"The natural gas market operates on a combination of non-transparent over-the-counter (OTC) trades and exchange-based standardized contracts in a handful of locations. And the gas markets that are transparent don’t do weekends." #txlege #energytwitter

The coldest air so far of the season moves into Central Texas for Sunday and early next week. This cold snap will be reminiscent of the cold snap of December 2022, and will bring multiple hard freezes.
The exact arrival time of the arctic front is still a little up in the air. The cold air could arrive by Sunday morning at the earliest, or Sunday evening at the latest. The more likely scenario is the cold air arrives earlier and much of Sunday afternoon is in the 30s and 40s. The arrival time will make a big difference in the weather for Sunday afternoon, but regardless we expect the coldest weather to be Monday and Tuesday.
By Monday morning air temperatures will likely be in the mid teens to low 20s for all of Central Texas. Wind chill values could be in the single digits or even below zero.
Temperatures Monday afternoon are now likely to stay below freezing, and then we drop into another hard freeze for Tuesday morning as temperatures drop into the low to mid teens area-wide.
Tuesday afternoon will be very cold, but will likely warm above freezing. The weather will be much warmer by the middle of next week.
The odds of ice or snow continue to look low for Central Texas. It’s not out of the question that there could be some light freezing rain Sunday night or Monday, but models are trending away from this idea. At this point we are not very concerned about wintry precip, but we will watch closely in case anything changes.
The main story will be the cold! This will be the type of cold that can burst pipes! So at this stage it’s a good idea to start thinking through your hard freeze preps to protects people, pipes, pets, and plants. #kvue #atxwx

Most reporters:
✅Don’t cover the US Senate or House or Presidency
✅Work very hard for a shockingly low amount of money
✅Work odd hours and/or weekends
✅Stress about what you might consider the most trivial of facts
✅Have faced increasing harassment in recent years

The TV news camera is both weapon and shield, instrument of empathy one moment, revealer of truth the next; a passport to adventure and virtual assurance of a safe return.
Still, careful where you whip one out.
Also, 5th graders are vicious.
I think they put gum in my hair.

In PUC Open Meeting, Commissioner Glotfelty says ERCOT's proposed regulation of batteries is discriminatory. He is concerned that storage companies aren't speaking out on this issue because they fear retribution from ERCOT for opposing. He wants NPRR 1186 voted down. #txlege

Austin’s housing market looks entirely different than it did two years ago. Gone are the days of dozens of offers, bids over asking price and waiving inspections.
Homes are now taking months to sell, and that's if they sell at all.

For those who heard the ERCOT Vice Chairman quote my article, it's linked below and it's free. My point: we need an *independent* review of ERCOT's actions on Sept. 6; ERCOT should not assess its own performance. #txlege #energytwitter cc: @Texas_RE_Inc

Hail caused serious damage not just to windshields but also to electrical equipment. We make every effort to provide restoration times but during severe storms that can be difficult until damage can be safely assessed. Check out our outage FAQs for more.
