whew madam capitalism telling an already overworked population to miss out on a family holiday to serve her because she can't google/youtube recipes is not the take i thought i would see today
After a major Thanksgiving fail, I thought I’d offer a quick note of advice to the owners of #soulfood restaurants in #LosAngeles in hopes they can pull it together before Christmas.
(And this really could apply to soul food restaurants anywhere.)

for me, college was an equalizer b/c it showed me opportunity that i never thought possible and allowed me to find alternatives to corporate life. however, i have $40k in student loans & after applying for jobs consistenly for a year after graduation, i got one callback for $10/h
i get so annoyed with this 'just go to college' rhetoric. without any type tuition reform, we are sending millions of people into lifelong debt and there is very little return. the converstion then becomes, only study if you're doing something i personally find profitable.

When I graduated high school my mama went to a rent-to-own store and got a computer so I could go to college with a laptop. Over the course of her payments she ended up paying $2400 for a $700 laptop. Being poor is expensive & college isn’t the equalizer we think it is.

Here's a relatable thread. I was so scared to apply for grad programs because of how horrible undergrad was. Especially when I had to cut down on working at my two jobs because I had a mandatory unpaid internship and practicum in the same semester. I had sleep for SO. MANY. meals
