What Are Free ZonesāAnd Why Hasnāt Anyone Told You About Them?
Ask your family and friends if theyāve heard of Freeports, Special Economic Zones, or AI Growth Zones. Most will look at you like you have two heads.
That should worry you.
Hereās What Iāve Discovered
The UK is being quietly carved into deregulated economic zones, areas where normal tax rules, labour protections, and regulatory oversight donāt fully apply. The government promotes them as engines of innovation, job creation, and net-zero progress.
Iāve been documenting what they really are since the advent of Brexit.
Through FOI requests, policy analysis, and tracking the money, Iām exposing the connections between UK free zones and a global network of tech billionaires, anarcho-capitalists, and neoliberal policymakers who share a vision: replacing democratic government with corporate governance.
The Players
This isnāt conspiracy theory, there are documented relationships between:
Tech oligarchs (Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, Elon Musk, Balaji Srinivasan)
Political figures across the spectrum (JD Vance, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer)
Libertarian theorists (Curtis Yarvin, Patri Friedman, Tom Bell)
Their shared ideology? The āDark Enlightenmentā, a movement that views democracy as obsolete and advocates for corporate-run territories governed like businesses, not nations.
Why This Matters Now
Three major UK parties, Conservative, Labour, and Reform UK, all back this policy. It passed with:
āNo parliamentary debate (secondary legislation)
āNo public consultation
āNo press notification
We have less than 5 years before transparency mechanisms, public regulators, and audit bodies lose access to these zones entirely. After that, legal accountability becomes nearly impossible.
How public money (state aid) is being funnelled into private profit in these zones
The Brexit connection and why timing matters
Which corporations are positioning themselves inside these enclaves
The legal architecture is being built to shield these zones from oversight
What this means for British sovereignty and democratic accountability
This is volunteer research. Iām not funded by think tanks or political parties. Iām documenting what mainstream media wonāt touch.
Alternatively, you can support my research through my online Ko-Fi tip jar if you can; it helps me dedicate more time to FOI requests, document analysis, raising awareness, and connecting the dots, something the MSM is singularly failing to do.

Who is running what? Seems like Palantir are running things & the government just rubber stamps it, with a Labour Lord head of PR to explain away this corrupt reality. We are a captured state, captured by, amongst others, the most murderous tech company yet created, helmed by a South African racist, someone who appears to be in a perpetual state of psychotic mania & the grandson of a notorious fascist

Excellent and disturbing new report from @EndCorruptionUK based on over 40 FOI requests.
Spotlight has found that UK govt ministers have held 137 meetings about Data Centres and AI growth zones between June 2024 and June 2026... but they didn't meet a single environmental group.
Government met only two community groups - but only AFTER the government had approved growth zones in their communities.
At the same time, Spotlight found that 38 government officials had left to take positions at AI and tech firms.
Spotlight is (correctly) calling for a halt on the approval of new AI and Data Centre Development zones until there has been a proper national consultation on community and environmental impacts. In other countries, these consultations have led to important new regulations to enforce environmental protections.

Spotlight on Corruption's new report, Zoned Out, is the clearest record yet of how Britain's AI Growth Zones were made.
Between July 2024 and June 2026, 79.3% of organisations in ministerial meetings on data centres were businesses.
Not one environmental NGO met a minister, permanent secretary or director general.
A report by Kamila Kingstone and Dr Susan Hawley was published on 27 Oc 2026. I advised on it and am credited in its acknowledgements. Link to the report in my Substack

I am a volunteer researching the UK duopoly's nationwide rollout of deregulated free zones after Brexit. The UK is being carved up for corporate governance which will very soon eclipse the UK. Once that happens, Britain will be privatised. Please support me on ko-fi.com/europeanpowell

That story about Google killing hundreds of thousands of trees in Finland for its data center project is such a perfect microcosm of what capitalism is doing to our world.
Recent mass media headlines are saying the tech giant "illegally" cut down "250,000" trees, but both claims paint an inaccurate picture of what actually happened. Google killed 400,000 trees (250,000 near a town called Muhos and another 150,000 near the village of OtanmƤki), and unless the company's executives actually wind up going to prison for this, their actions cannot properly be described as "illegal".
I don't know who first coined the saying "If the penalty is a fine, then it's legal for rich people," but it certainly applies here. The Finnish Licensing and Supervision Authority has reportedly ordered Google to suspend all āmeasures that significantly change the environment," saying it will "consider enforcement proceedings and fines" if the megacorporation does not comply. Google's parent company Alphabet has a net worth of around four trillion dollars. Whatever paltry penalties Finland might impose for these ecocidal actions, it won't have any meaningful effect on Google.
Giant corporations do this shit all the time. They calculate that the fines incurred by their abusive actions will be dwarfed by the massive profits they generate, issue fake apologies as needed, and leave it to their armies of lawyers to minimize the damage. That's why the Sackler family is still worth billions despite all the fines Purdue Pharma was slapped with while creating the US opiate epidemic.
A 2017 Harvard study titled āThe Opioid Epidemic: Fixing a Broken Pharmaceutical Market" contains the following paragraph:
"Although civil claims and criminal charges were brought against Purdue and its executives, the resulting penalties paled in comparison to extended-release oxycodone profits. In May 2007, the company and its president, chief counsel, and former chief medical officer pled guilty to falsely marketing extended-release oxycodone as 'less addictive, less subject to abuse and diversion, and less likely to cause tolerance and withdrawal than other pain medications.' As part of the plea bargain, Purdue agreed to pay the federal government $600 million and 27 states $20 million. The three executives agreed to $34.5 million in fines but avoided jailtime. By contrast, Purdue has earned an estimated $31 billion in total revenues from extended-release oxycodone since its launch. Rather than deterring fraudulent marketing, the penalties simply became a cost of doing business."
A cost of doing business.
That's how things work under capitalism. The law primarily exists not to protect people or the environment, but to protect the interests of capital. If you destroyed a Google data center you'd probably be charged as a terrorist and spend decades in prison, but Google can destroy the natural world around you and get off with a finger wag and a symbolic fine. If you stole millions of dollars from your employer you'd go to prison for grand larceny, but if your employer steals millions from its employees you need to win a class action lawsuit to get back what they stole from you.
Proponents of capitalism often pretend they support minimal government intervention in civilian affairs, but their entire model is at all times propped up by state power using force to protect the haves from the have-nots at every level of our society. Corporations are free to destroy the environment, destroy your health, rob you, exploit you, and manipulate your government to their advantage, and if you ever take action to stand up to this world-devouring onslaught, the state will lock you in a cage.
In school we are taught that that the law exists to protect ordinary people from bad people, but that's not true at all. Under capitalism, the law exists to protect the very worst among us from everyone else. That's why we are seeing our planet being turned into dust and ashes for no reason other than shareholder profit.
It's an insane system, and it needs to end. These freaks are feeding our entire biosphere into the woodchipper.

Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion āZionism is racismā, spells out the central obscenity of our age ā the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
āWe as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people⦠our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death ⦠And to have to sit here ⦠and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.ā /1

The ICJ found Israel's occupation unlawful. It must end.
Until then, under int'l law, Palestinians have the right to resist it through lawful means.
Israel shall protect its youth by ending the colonial project that traps many of them in committing atrocity crimes.
A war is coming to the West Bank
Yesterday Palestinian resistance fighters conducted a surgical strike against Israeli occupation soldiers, fully in accordance with international law.
In response, Israeli government immediately announced that they will do war crimes and started doing war crimes.
All the Palestinian villages in the West Bank are under siege, the city of Hebron is under siege. IDF is demolishing house after house, raiding family after family. They said they want to turn Hebron into Rafah.
More than 250 families were kicked out into the streets with nothing. People slept on the street last night.
The Israeli election is in 3 days, and the Netanyahu-Smotrich government is going to use this to start a war in the West Bank.
The only way to stop this is pressure from all directions. We know it works. International pressure worked for the besieged house in Qusra, which still belongs to the Palestinians because of the all-around attention. It can work for Hebron too.
But it will require EVERYONE reading this doing everything they can to stop this. Call your representative, hold a demonstration, organise direct action against the occupationās assets abroad. Keep attention on the West Bank.
ACT NOW.

Replying to @Ed_Miliband
@Ed_Miliband has feebly caved to Israel by allowing the British consulate to be illegally shut down in East Jerusalem, contravening International Law.
What a spineless hypocrite.
Then thereās Andy Burnham who is utterly clueless about foreign policy. Burnham colluded with the Tories on the Manchester SEZ, offering it up on a silver platter to Blackstone, he is worse than Starmer because he pretends to be on the left, yet he is perfectly happy getting as far up the arse of Donald Trump as he possibly can.
