It’s not worse but is so stuck in the time it was made it can feel like an alternate universe if you can’t remember all the weird industry drama that it comes off more inexplicable then it already is
I’m probably gonna regret reading this but it can’t be much worse than Unfunnies

The American Comic book Chronicle, it goes by each decade noting developments in the medium and various companies and what they brought to the table. If you stopped calling people virgin or incel you might pick it up and learn something about the history.
One of the important aspects is goes over is how the adult fandom was formed and how they were drawn in by the new heroes who referenced the old ones like Flash and Green Lantern, eventually leading to the JSA
I keep track of my sources at the very least it’s one of the few places that explains the odd story structure of early Spider-Man.

Dude acted like a smartass only to get cooked by your comic book knowledge.
Arguably Green Lantern if you count Abin Sur in the first issue kind of mirroring the set up, but if I had to think on what is CLOSE to what your saying it's probably Rick Jones deciding to take on the Bucky identity as cap sidekick.

So what was the first legacy in terms of how we think of it now, the original dies and the new one steps up
I read a history book on this and no…..because something like Barry Allen was completely new at the time for fans. The idea of a new reboot guy taking over meant they had no frame of reference and the first thought about this…..was Jay could come back.
I see indie animation discourse has reached the 90s comic discussions about creators not being good writers and only focus on art.
I understand this take to an extent but I also am careful promoting it because after doing the research trying to sum up decades of culture changes and business decisions to just the code doesn't show the full history and extent of what happened and why.
Like keep in mind War comics were a thing and were not banned by the code so WHY did they go away? They were darker and had commentary too? Or westerns? They have their own reasons outside of the code being created and show how much America was changing decade to decade.
For me a couple things Citizen Kane because I was so familiar with the parodies and references before I saw it in high school, Mad magazine because EVERY comic parody drew from them, and Twilight zone
Lestat is definitely there, I would say the vampire from the various let the right one, and maybe Barnes’s colins from dark shadows

@Exalted_Speed Here's an appropiate one for the month
Who would you say are the modern(er) equivalents to the original trio of Ruthven, Carmilla and Dracula?
