Terrific comedian wholly out of his depth. I remember when he took on charter schools and was spectacularly wrong and ill-informed. When someone screws up a topic you know well, you assume--or should--that they're equally wrong about subjects you don't know.
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

Jarry fucking sucks .
If I’m bowman I’m on the phones trying to get yet another guy in front of him then sending him down, it’s over for that guy.
Unless the oilers play absolutely pristine hockey , he cannot make the saves required , what a donkey in there man.
Jarry experiment is done.

Scientists & science journalists decry the public's rejection of science, but are oblivious to the major cause: the perception, sometimes correct, that scientists are just another political faction. Among the guiltiest perpetrators are the recent editors of Scientific American, who turned this once-beloved treasure into a left-wing propaganda rag. This absolutely does not justify the Trump administration's unconstitutional meddling, but the new owners are right to restore it to its mission of explaining science to Americans. "I remember the day that science died...It was at a Faculty Senate meeting almost five years ago at the University of Montana, my former employer. I was called a conspiracy theorist for citing studies run by Ivy League researchers. That day, I became convinced that progressive academia had become more like a cult than a science. To understand that moment requires understanding the slow death of science at my former university."

The Constitution prohibits the govt from restricting people for speech or punishing them for speech. There are no exceptions for immigrants on noncitizens. This is clear from a simple reading of 1A. That prohibition includes preventing the govt from deporting people for speech.
FIRE won a huge First Amendment victory today.
And before anyone mischaracterizes it: This ruling does NOT say the government must admit anyone, issue anyone a visa, or grant anyone citizenship.
It says that once a person is lawfully here, the government cannot deport them because they engaged in protected speech.
The government cannot tell a legal immigrant: An American is free to say this, but if you say it, you’re out.
That’s the principle we sued to defend. And today we won.

My number one dating rule back in my 20s was that the person must have an ORCID.
I can’t tell you how many gals I approached in the bar who said they had one when they didn’t.
And yes, I would verify it.

I do not think it’s anti-racist to suggest black academics need to be “guided” not to do fraud. I think lots of black academics wake up every day and don’t do fraud and it’s weird and paternalistic to suggest this apparent con artist was let down by institutions and mentors.
