FHS Business

What am I thankful for? A great group of business teachers whom I am privileged to work with! We work hard everyday to mentor and build relationships with our students - as evidenced by Mrs. Fastenberg's 3rd block "Friendsgiving" celebration today. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Today in AI class: We learned how neural networks are trained by creating a dataset - we drew cars to "train the machine". We used Google's Quick Draw to see how machine learning works in real time! @Leesonscience @basdrickamato @KvackyFHS @BASDMsSage @basdjacksilva

Open for business! The class is excited to have the window open to serve our Special Olympics visitors today! Our students had a lot of fun decorating the coffee shop for today's event 🖤💛

Marketing In Practice/Coffee Shop is getting ready for the Special Olympics! We are creating posters to welcome athletes & parents! Even Mrs. Santini joined the fun!

The Business Dept has been busy lately! Mr. Bloszinsky's Cybersecurity class created posters to promote online safety. Mrs. Santini's Marketing In Practice/Coffee Shop class participated in an advertising challenge - winners had their posters displayed around the school!

So excited for this new AP course to happen! @Leesonscience @MrsMiranda210 @FHS @basdjacksilva @BASDMsSage

Changes coming to the SATs! cnn.com/2021/01/19/us/colleg…

Our Coffee Shop is not yet open for business, but Marketing In Practice students are working hard & learning about the difference between leadership and management, Starbucks and Howard Schultz, and my personal fave: history of fast food breakfast. @Leesonscience @basdjacksilva

Look who joined our Cybersecurity class today for a lesson in ciphering and encryption! Can Mr. Cecchini crack the code and escape the Virtual Classroom?

Perhaps cyber attacks are just on my radar since I began teaching a cybersecurity course (kind of like buying a new car--you notice just how many people drive that model). I found this one earlier today: wfmz.com/news/report-german-…

More awesomeness: Mrs. Spang created a YouTube channel for her ELL learners. Students can rewatch a lesson/adjust playback speed for better comprehension. CC aids understanding and can be translated! Great for hearing impaired, too! @Leesonscience @basdjacksilva @basdfhslaporta

Fresh Seminar news: Most classes are doing a "Genius Hour" project this fall. Students get an hour/week to pursue a personal passion and create a unique project. Kudos to Mrs. Mauro for starting this project! geniushour.com/what-is-geniu… @basdjacksilva @basdfhslaporta @Leesonscience

Mr. Petrosky's Marketing class is working on promotional videos for each of our courses! Great project for authentic assessment--they will be useful for advertising our diverse curriculum! Stay tuned for more info! @basdjacksilva @basdfhslaporta @Leesonscience

In lieu of a Cyber Tip of the Day, I am attaching an article about a ransomware attack at a school district in neighboring NJ. “Security is always excessive until it's not enough” -Robbie Sinclair @Leesonscience @basdfhslaporta @basdjacksilva @BASDSUPT lehighvalleylive.com/coronav…

So proud to have played a (small) role setting up flags this morning with the YAF club. I was amazed at the large number of students who woke up early this morning to participate! Never forget!

First week of school . . . SUCCESS! Our new Cybersecurity class is off to a good start! We learned about the need for information security and multi-layered security barriers.Students had fun designing a multi-layered system to protect valuables. Example of one design:

Cybersecurity tip of the day: You Are a Target! You may not realize it, but you are a target. Your computer, your work and personal accounts and your information are all highly valuable to cyber criminals. Be mindful that bad guys are out to get you. sans.org/tip-of-the-day

Great start to the new year for the FHS House of Business, Computer Science, & Technology! Our teachers are ready for whatever this year throws at them!
