Before Jay-Z got involved with the Super Bowl halftime show, nobody was making this much noise about who was performing. Now that he has a say in choosing the artists, suddenly everybody has an opinion. Every year, there’s something to complain about. So what exactly is the problem? Is it really about the artists performing, or do people just have a problem with Jay-Z being the one helping to make these decisions? Because the way people react now, you would think the halftime show never had performers before Jay-Z got involved.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on JAY-Z headlining the Super Bowl halftime show:
“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAY-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.”

Fun fact:
Last night’s announcement was yet another big anniversary and full circle moment for Jay-Z.
20 years ago, October 2006, he officially premiered the video for “Show Me What You Got” at halftime on Monday Night Football on ESPN.
This was his first official single post-retirement and the lead single to “Kingdom Come.”
It also served as the introduction of Armand de Brignac (Ace of Spades).
20 years later, also at halftime on Monday Night Football on ESPN he was announced as the headliner to next year’s Super Bowl.
I don’t believe that any of these things are coincidental. This entire #JAŸZ30 celebration has been well calculated.
