Note to Dem Senators being jammed to support this flawed bill: many of the worst parts of BAAJA are there because of ONE PERSON. It's not Trump, or Steven Miller. It's Mike Lee who temporarily wields tremendous power. Voters just took his power away. Don't give it back to him. Let our coming Dem Majority finish the job here. We'll get a much less toxic deal - and maybe even a very good deal.
Our statement on the updated BAAJA text:
“This isn’t a permitting compromise, it’s a sellout… There is no reason why we should pass such a heinous bill in Lame Duck when we will soon be ushering in a new Congress in January.”

Wow some chutzpah to tweet this while pushing the make-it-easier-to-build-data-centers bill.
With help from a few Democrats, Trump & the GOP are poised to deliver one more far-right victory through the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (BAAJA), before they lose control of Congress. (1/4) foe.org/wp-content/uploads/2…

Now is not the time to enable Trump's reckless agenda to drill, log, mine, and give away whatever serves industry interests.
Congress must show up for our communities by rejecting the Senate permitting bill. earthjustice.org/experts/abi…

The first chance to show that the days of Trump's "supplicant Senate" are over is Nov. 9th. Dems can demand a hearing and amendments to improve the deeply flawed BAAJA bill before it moves forward. Or, they can cave to Trump and agree to jam through his 400-page MAGA wish list - the most sweeping environmental/energy bill in decades - without a single hearing. If that happens after last night's Blue Tsunami, the word "supplicant" would be far too kind.

Not huge - utterly predictable and choreographed - and there will probably be another tranche of this before Monday's Senate vote. As I warned two weeks ago, this is window dressing. It changes nothing.

NEW: Sen. @RonWyden (D-Ore.) tells me he cannot support BAAJA and suggests Dems should negotiate a new permitting deal:
"I cannot support a deal that strips Oregonians and tribes of the most important tools they have to hold Trump and his cronies accountable," he said.

SCOOP: Jeffries spokesperson says Senate permitting bill “falls short,” calls for more House input before they can support it:
"[It] falls short in several areas, including the manner in which NEPA reform is undertaken and the failure to adequately protect tribal sovereignty.

House Democrats support, and will deliver, responsible permitting reform. But as Speaker-elect Jeffries said today, and as some of us have said for weeks, we must have a chance to fix the most glaring flaws in BAAJA.

“In the November 3 elections, voters across the country resoundingly rejected data centers. This is not the time to pass a bill that enables Big Tech to charge forward with them, powered by fossil fuels, over the objection of local communities." 👏👏

At a moment when we should be celebrating good news, U.S. senators are threatening to kill the vibe with one of the most dangerous anti-environment bills ever drafted.
"If The Odyssey taught me anything, it’s to beware of Republicans bearing gifts."

Now all that is at risk because Democratic @SenWhitehouse of Rhode Island and @SenatorHeinrich of New Mexico have decided to join hands with Republicans to allow Trump and corporations to build, pollute, and destroy with impunity.
