We appreciate your acknowledgement and understanding.
The Libyan people are proud, resilient, hospitable, and deserving of peace and prosperity. The United States and Libya share a strong and enduring partnership in combating terrorism, building on our historic success in defeating ISIS in Libya together. We respect the Libyan people and the sacrifices that brave Libyans made fighting ISIS, the common enemy of both our peoples, but Libya cannot remain a corridor for illegal migration, and this must end now.
The United States remains firmly committed to strengthening our bilateral relationship, supporting the long-awaited unification of Libya and Libya’s institutions, and standing with the Libyan people as they transition toward successful national elections. The Libyan people have been victims of terrorism and foreign meddling for years. I want them to unite, take back their sovereignty, and have the peaceful, prosperous future they deserve! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Mr. Trump, before making disparaging remarks about my country, let me remind you that we are a proud & dignified people, who will not tolerate insults from anyone regardless of the hardships we endure. Yesterday’s setbacks, in which your country had a hand, do not diminish the standing of a nation. The response from Libyans to your remarks across the country, including their leaders, is clear evidence of that. So thanks for uniting us on that.
As a Libyan citizen, I remind you & your advisers of a few historical facts you seem to have overlooked: When the name “Libya” was used to refer to much of Africa, your country had yet not been discovered, and the America we know today was built by immigrants, including your own ancestors.
When we defeated your fleet off our shores in 1803, the name “Tripoli” became immortalized in the U.S. Marines’ Hymn, where it remains to this day! The mast of your burned frigate, the USS Philadelphia, remains a historical attraction in our museum.
And if that is history, let us look at the present: Your administration maintains a diplomatic presence in the heart of our capital, while your country signs multibillion-dollar oil and gas exploration agreements with Libya!
Mr. Trump, you owe us an apology, and your advisers should be more mindful. The relationship between our peoples is deeply rooted in history and must be built on mutual respect.
You may be the world’s superpower today, but you were not always so. History has repeatedly shown that no power or position lasts forever…
