All they need is your carrier to hand your phone number to a SIM card they control. It's called SIM swapping, and it's one of the most damaging fraud types most people have never heard of.

🇰🇵 $6.36 BILLION. GONE IN 20 MINUTES. The largest crypto theft in history, and North Korea is behind it.
TRM Labs has linked the attack on @binance, with high confidence, to TraderTraitor — a state-sponsored hacking group tied to the notorious Lazarus Group.
The attackers drained wallets across 10 blockchains:
- roughly $3.79 billion from Ethereum
- $1.47 billion in Bitcoin
- $628 million from Tron
- $296 million from the XRP Ledger
That’s about four times the $1.5 billion Bybit hack of February 2022, which was also blamed on North Korean hackers.
Binance’s early findings suggest the breach began with a single compromised engineer’s laptop. Instead of stealing wallet private keys, the attackers reached the systems that authorize withdrawals.
On Ethereum, investigators say they used 50 signed authorizations to take control of a Binance wallet, drain it, and intercept deposits that came in afterward.
Even more alarming: that access reportedly stayed active for nearly four hours, including more than 90 minutes after Binance suspended withdrawals.
Binance has pledged to cover losses using its SAFU emergency fund and company reserves. Crypto companies have reportedly helped freeze about $3 billion of the stolen assets, but billions remain out of reach.

With Turing TTS, we hope to contribute to a broader discussion within the research community about how we measure progress in voice AI.
If one of our goals is to develop speech that is indistinguishable from human speech, how well do our current evaluation methods capture progress toward that goal?
We don’t claim that Turing TTS is the right way forward, or that human indistinguishability should be the goal of every TTS system.
Rather, we hope these findings encourage the community to collectively examine whether blind pairwise human evaluations of naturalness are sufficient, and what else we might need to measure.
