The other day I committed to one of the hardest physical challenges I have taken on.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit scared, but the fear is where the excitement comes from.
I am shooting for the 100-mile Sinister 7 Ultra in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Canada. It's through the Rocky Mountains with 6,692 meters of climbing, and I have 30 hours to finish.
A 100-mile race has been on my bucket list for a while now, but I always found some sort of excuse to push it off...
That ends today.
I went for my first easy run back from the bulking block I just finished. I went from 185 lbs to over 205 lbs, so I've got a bit of weight to come off to get ready for this race.
The race is in July of next year, which is pretty close considering I have never done a 100-miler before. That means it will only be a 36-week build, and I want to hit a 50 km and a 50-mile race along the way.
I'm also taking the opportunity to use this challenge to raise money for Oceana Canada. I spent years commercial crab fishing on the Hecate Strait, and the ocean stayed with me long after I left the boat.
I chose Oceana because I think they are doing good work taking care of our oceans.
My goal is to raise $2,500, which is only $25/mile. I would appreciate anyone willing to sponsor a mile or 2 for a good cause. It would mean the world to me.
