Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 3.5 - Predator) #Amalgaverse The cruiser breaks away from the Enterprise and runs for open space, leaving its soldiers behind. It doesn’t get far. Behind it, space ripples and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey shimmers out of cloak, its wings lowering into attack position. Two torpedoes, two direct hits, and the cruiser is gone, leaving behind a spreading cloud of wreckage. The Bird-of-Prey comes about, bringing its weapons to bear on the Enterprise. Then it hails. A Klingon captain appears on the viewscreen, scarred, grey-bearded and entirely at ease. “This is Captain James T. Kirk, of the U.S.S. Enterprise.” “I am Captain Kordath, of the warship Vor’nak. You are welcome, Captain. The vermin who attacked your ship will trouble no one again.” “I don’t recall asking for your help,”says Kirk. “A Klingon never waits to be asked.” Then he gets down to business. Harven Zax is wanted by the Klingon Empire for crimes against it, and the Enterprise is in Klingon space. Kordath demands that Zax be handed over to them. What do you do? A) Refuse. Zax is under Federation protection, and Kirk has his orders. But the Enterprise has only now come back to life, and a Bird-of-Prey that just destroyed a cruiser may not take no for an answer. B) Stall. Demand to see the warrant. Bring in Councilor Robespierre to argue jurisdiction and drag out the talks while Scotty brings the ship back to full strength. But Klingon patience runs short, and Robespierre may make things worse. C) Run. Go to warp and leave the Klingons behind. But it’s a long way out of Klingon space, and a Bird-of-Prey is built for the chase. Choose! [END OF ACT THREE] Recruit a crewmate: Share this with a fellow fan! And now the hunters become the hunted... Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 3.4 - Face Off) #Amalgaverse The surviving strike teams act on their orders, converging on the guest deck, where Harven Zax is being held.  Surprisingly, they meet no resistance.  One squad moves toward a closed door, rifles raised.  From behind it comes a voice, rich and theatrical: “Confined like a common felon!  Herded about by ninnyhammers in pajamas!  I, who have dined with ambassadors and been toasted by admirals, left to cower while my life hangs by a thread!” The squad leader signals.  The door slides open. Inside, a heavyset man sits with his back to the entrance, his broad shoulders draped in an extravagant embroidered coat, hand raised in a grand gesture to an empty room. “Let the canker-blossoms come.  Let history record that I faced my fate as I faced every audience: seated, composed and magnificent.” The soldiers move in, slow and silent, and fan out behind the chair.  The man doesn’t turn.  For the first time, one of the soldiers speaks, the voice flat and distorted through the helmet: “Harven Zax?” The chair swings around. The face looking back at them is wrong. It has the rough shape of a face, but it’s smooth and featureless, like soft putty or a candle left too long in the sun. “No,”it says. Then the man begins to change.  His body melts into a surge of golden-amber liquid and rises out of the chair, stretching and swelling into something monstrous.  It towers over them, hunched, all hooked claws, wrong-jointed limbs, and eyeless head.  It opens its maw ringed with needle teeth, throws back its head and shrieks. Now the strike team gives ground, backing away with their rifles still trained on the thing in front of them.   Before they can recover, Carter, Lucinda, and Aeryn come out of hiding and take them apart hand to hand, three very different fighting styles that turn out to work well together: Carter’s tactical discipline, Lucinda’s surgical precision, and Aeryn’s Peacekeeper brutality.  When the last soldier drops, the three women exchange looks of grudging professional respect. The creature shrinks, softens and settles into a familiar form: Odo, adjusting his uniform with obvious distaste. “A little over the top, but circumstances demanded it,”he says. Back in the corridor, the remaining strike teams find themselves surrounded by O’Neill’s team on one side and Sheppard’s on the other.  It turns out the orders that brought them here never came from their commanders.   They came from Data and Rommie, who cracked their comms and sent them straight into a waiting ambush. Then Data reports from the bridge.  The last strike teams are down or captured.  And the cruiser, abandoning its own soldiers, is breaking away from the Enterprise. What do you do? A) Lock a tractor beam on it.  Hold the cruiser in place, and its crew can answer some questions. B) Give chase.  Disable its engines before it can go to warp. C) Let it go.  Secure the Enterprise and find out who’s under those helmets. Choose! Recruit a crewmate: Share this with a fellow fan! The help Kirk needs comes from the last place anyone expected... Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 3.3 - Crossfire) #Amalgaverse While O’Neill and Sheppard’s teams take the fight to the strike teams, Carter’s team digs in to defend the guest deck, leaving Kirk to hunt the beacon with Scotty, Teal’c, and Data.  The signal leads them to main engineering, but there’s nothing there to see.  Then Data recalibrates his tricorder, and something shimmers into view, clinging to the warp core housing: a small, many-legged mechanical crawler, cloaked until now. Teal’c pries it loose.  Scotty cuts its power.  The signal dies, and across the ship, the lights flicker back on.   “Main power restored, Captain,”announces Data.  “Shields are back up and at full strength.” “Then their reinforcements are cut off,”says Teal’c.  “We need only defeat those who remain.” Scotty turns the device over in his hands.  Someone carried it aboard and set it loose.  It crawled through the vents to the warp core and latched on, dampening the ship’s power and knocking out every system.  Then it started broadcasting the Enterprise’s position and guiding the strike teams’ transporters straight in. “It’s a wee bit of genius, Captain,”Scotty begrudgingly admits.  Then, pocketing it: “I’m keepin’ this.” The team falls back toward the guest deck.  But on their way, a strike team rounds the corner dead ahead.   Another immediately closes in from behind.  Kirk’s team takes cover behind a bulkhead, pinned down, as the masked soldiers advance in perfect step.  There’s nowhere left to go. Suddenly, behind the advancing strike teams, the turbolift doors slide open. Algernon fills the doorway, his rotary cannon leveled.  He opens fire, and the soldiers caught in the open go down. He steps aside.  Behind him stands Maia, the utility android who joined the crew after their last mission.  She fires, her weapon finding the breaches in the enemy’s armor. She steps aside.  Then Mira drops from the ceiling hatch, a pistol in each hand, firing wildly, cackling with pure delight. She too steps into the corridor, revealing Dunsel, armed with a soup ladle.  He trundles over to a fallen soldier, raps him several times, then hurries to catch up. Kirk’s team comes out of cover.  Kirk looks from Maia to the two escaped prisoners, now very well armed. “They offered their assistance,”says Maia.  “And you appeared to require it.” They were in the brig when the power failed.  The force fields went down with everything else, so the pair availed themselves of the opportunity.  “Our former employers likely sent those squads to tidy up loose ends, among them Mira and myself, just as your tailor foresaw,”says Algernon.  “Such ingratitude rather settles the question of allegiance, wouldn’t you agree?” There’s no time to celebrate.  With internal sensors back, Data can finally see that O’Neill and Sheppard have taken out their opponents, but the remaining squads are converging on the guest deck. What do you do? A) Reinforce the guest deck.  Carter’s team is holding, but every surviving squad is converging on her position, and she’s outnumbered.  Sending everyone to help could turn the tide, but it leaves the bridge with a skeleton crew, and the strike teams have already shown they know exactly where to hit the ship. B) Hijack their comms.  Data has isolated the encrypted chatter between the soldiers’ helmets, and Rommie, who is herself a warship’s AI, can help him crack it.  Once they’re in, they can feed the squads false orders, sending them the wrong way or straight into an ambush.  But it takes time to break the encryption, and if the strike teams realize their comms are compromised, they’ll switch to hand signals and the advantage will be gone. C) Turn the guns on their ship.  With power back, the Enterprise can fight.  Open fire on the cruiser holding position over the saucer and cripple it, leaving the boarders with no ride home.  But the cruiser will fire back, and Carter’s team is on its own until the battle is over. Choose! Recruit a crewmate: Share this with a fellow fan! Then turn on notification so that you don't miss a moment of this mission! New to the mission? Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 3.2 - Bad Company) #Amalgaverse Kirk doesn’t wait for the mystery ship to arrive.  He has teams take up positions at key points on the ship.  Kirk, Sheppard, Carter, and O’Neill each lead a team.  On emergency power, there’s no internal sensor grid to track intruders, so every team will be fighting blind. The guests, meanwhile, have been confined to the guest deck.  Zax does not take it well: “Am I to hide in a cupboard like a lily-livered shag-bag while these blackguards hunt me like a stag?” “Yep, pretty much,”says Sheppard. Then the mystery ship drops out of warp.  Dark and angular, it glides over the dead Enterprise and settles above her saucer, hovering like a hawk over its prey. For a moment, nothing happens. Then, all across the Enterprise, the air begins to shimmer. Columns of cold white light flare to life in darkened corridors, in an empty Ten Forward.  From the columns step a squad of five soldiers, identical in matte grey armor and featureless masks, rifles already raised.  They move in silence, as a single unit. O’Neill’s team is the first to engage.  Phaser beams splash harmlessly off the soldiers’ armor O’Neill opens up with his P-90, and the bullet’s punch straight through.  Two soldiers drop, and the other falls back. “Good old bullets,”says O’Neill.  “They never go out of style.” Data reports.  The beacon isn’t only calling these mercs in.  It’s guiding their transporters.  As long as it’s active, they can keep beaming in more squads, and the moment they find Zax, they can beam him straight out. The mercs have the numbers, and there aren’t enough hands to do everything. What do you do? A) Hunt down the beacon.  Send a team to find it and kill it.  It’s the only way to stop the reinforcements and keep Zax from being beamed away, but it pulls people out of a fight. B) Fall back and protect the guests.  Pull every team back to the guest deck and turn it into a fortress.  If the mercs can’t reach Zax, they can’t take him.  But it hands them the rest of the ship. C) Take the fight to them.  Use the Jefferies tubes and service crawlways to pick off the squads one at a time.  It could break them before they regroup, but it leaves the guests with almost no protection. Choose! Recruit a crewmate: Share this with a fellow fan! Then turn on notification so that you don't miss a moment of this mission! New to the mission? 1/ New blog. What can be done about the collapse of both old parties & Whitehall? (Link at end) We can see the crackup of both old parties and the crackup of state capacity. Labour MPs have to face that Whitehall is shattered and Starmer put in charge of fixing it the guy responsible for pandemic preparation in 2019-20. SW1’s cross party approach to Ukraine — deeply deluded and doomed as I said from the start — has blown up under the whole rancid ecosystem and humiliated us globally. SW1 response is to call £6B 'a new war footing'. The whole pattern since 2016 plays out again: as delusions are exposed, double down on new delusions, deepen humiliation, circle wagons, call everyone who rightly said SW1 is herding to idiot positions 'Hitler', lose more credibility with voters (now hard to do as credibility is close to rock bottom, the only ones who still believe in 'our institutions' are those making money off them or rabbiting about them). We're on a path to serious internal violence and financial meltdown with pure Idiocracy ‘in charge’.

Previously On #Amalgaverse… You and 19 others have been stranded in an amalgam universe of myriad SF realities. All 19 are sci-fi’s Best of the Best. And then there’s you, uniquely qualified given your encyclopedic knowledge garnered from your world where these characters, their technologies, and their stories are fiction, beloved t.v. shows you have watched time and again. Together, all 20 of you have set off on the Enterprise-D, tasked with finding a way home. On its first mission, the crew answered a distress call from a dead ship and found it was far from empty.  Aboard, the away team awoke an android named Maia, discovered a “survivor” named Rhea who turned out to be something else entirely, and fought their way off as scavengers closed in.  They came home to the Enterprise with two things: a new crewmember in Maia, and a fragment of the signature an entity left behind when it crossed into this reality.  Colonel Carter believes it’s one piece of a much larger puzzle, and that the rest of it is still out there waiting. For your second mission, you have elected to follow a Starfleet directive, traveling to pick up and transport Harven Zax, a dangerous intelligence broker, to a rendezvous point at the edge of the Expanse.  Upon arrival, you discover his cruiser inoperable, drifting towards a black hole, the ship’s automated defense systems preventing Scotty from using the Enterprise’s transporter to simply beam them aboard. O’Neill and Data take the jumper to the cruiser where they encounter four stranded passengers: the annoyingly flamboyant Harven Zax, his silent bodyguard Lucinda Shockley, his mild-mannered protege Milo, a Starfleet official named Robespierre, and the ship’s utility bot, Dunsel.  Everyone piles into the jumper and launch, only to be caught by the black hole’s gravitational pull.   The Enterprise uses its tractor in an attempt to reel in the jumper while, on the bridge, the crew must decide what to do about the two life signs in the mercenary shuttle headed for the event horizon. The Enterprise escapes the black hole’s gravitational pull by using the deflector array to project a counter-field ahead of the ship and then jumping to warp. You set off for the rendezvous point and your guests settle in: no-nonsense Lucinda, meek Milo, officious Robespierre and, of course, the bombastic Harven Zax. While Data works on repairing Dunsel the robot, you check in on the mercenaries you beamed off the doomed shuttle headed towards the black hole’s event horizon.  They offer to talk in exchange for their freedom.  Instead, you  have Garak chat with the alien mercenary, Algernon.  In his own incomparable fashion, the simple Cardassian tailor convinces the merc to talk and reveal he and his partner were in the employ of a Klingon Great House who want Harven Zax for a secret he carries.  Algernon also reveals that he and Mira were given coordinates to the damaged cruiser transporting Zax.  But Garak finds this mysterious.  The cruisers engines failed without warning.  So how did anyone know where to find it? Suddenly, the Enterprise shudders and slows.  Data reveals the ship’s nacelles are encrusted with glittering green growth that turns out to be a subspace organism that feeds on warp fields.   Everyone retreats to a shielded section of the ship as a baryon sweep clears the organisms, then the crew directs focus to their passengers, engaging them in conversation to learn more about their mission.  Harven Zax simply talks about himself while Robespierre laments the fact he has been passed over for promotion three times.  Milo demonstrates impressive understanding of the Ancients in his conversation with Daniel Jackson, and Aeryn Sun identifies Lucinda as a fellow ex-military.   But the most notable piece of information comes from Dunsel who, it turns out, had his memory stores deleted after discovering that someone had sabotaged the cruiser, forcing the ship out of warp and into the hands of the waiting mercs.   One of their passengers is a mole, and the crew must decide how to proceed. The crew attempts to lure the mole into a trap by revealing they will successfully restore Dunsel’s memory stores by morning.  But, rather than taking the bait, the mole springs their own trap.  The Enterprise drops out of warp and goes dark.  A beacon onboard the ship is broadcasting their position and a mysterious vessel is fast-approaching. Religious hate crimes, you say?
This Islamophobia Awareness Month, we must shine a light on the abhorrent hatred and discrimination Muslims continue to face. In the last year alone, religious hate crimes targeting Muslims rose by 15% in England and Wales. This is utterly unacceptable. London will always stand against hatred, prejudice and discrimination.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
UK security agencies still assess Islamist extremism as the largest terrorism threat. MI5's Islamist-related caseload remains roughly 75% of its counter-terrorism work, according to recent threat assessments. isdglobal.org/digital-dispat…

The incoming foreign wave of low-skilled mass settlement and citizenship must be reversed. Restore Britain is today making these commitments to the British people. - We will abolish Indefinite Leave to Remain entirely. No further ILR grants will be permitted. - Revoke all existing ILR grants. A Restore Britain Parliament will legislate to terminate existing ILR permissions and, where appropriate, replace them with a system of time-limited visas, subject to the strict criteria contained in our immigration Red List. Those who don't meet that standard will leave. As previously stated, immigration from the third world into Britain will end. - Entirely end the routine pathway from temporary visas to citizenship - living or working in Britain will no longer provide a route to naturalisation. - Cancel naturalisation grants made from today onwards. We will introduce retrospective legislation to revoke every citizenship granted, as of today, under the existing immigration system. Put simply - the current naturalisation system has been subject to such widespread abuse and fraud, we no longer recognise it as legitimate. Following this, those individuals will again be subject to our Red List. - Going further than that, Restore Britain will create a dedicated body to review naturalisation grants going back decades, audit original applications, investigate fraudulent citizenship awards, assess the contribution made to our country and pursue deprivation wherever appropriate grounds are established. - There will be one exception to the proposed citizenship cancellation policy - citizenship obtained through marriage to a British citizen who was born in Britain with at least one parent also born in our country. - And crucially - we will enforce immigration departures. Where individuals have no lawful right to remain under the replacement system, departure and removal requirements will be enforced. Ending ILR is not enough. It will be too late - the consequence of ILR is citizenship, permanent citizenship. The staggering betrayal of the last Conservative Government must be undone. The sheer scale of numbers is impossible to fully comprehend. They will stay, they will claim benefits, they will live in social housing. They will be naturalised. They will get a passport. They will become ‘British’. Most importantly - they will vote. It will cost us hundreds of billions. It will corrode our democracy. It will be the final end for our high-trust society. It cannot be allowed to happen. We will abolish ILR, end permanent settlement by default, and reverse the incoming wave of mass naturalisations. A Restore Britain Government will undo the damage. Not tolerate it, or manage it, or control it. Undo it.

You're aboard the Enterprise setting a trap for the traitor in your ranks. Join the stakeout! Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 3.1 - The Stakeout) #Amalgaverse Captain’s Log , supplemental: Mr. Scott has repaired the warp coils, and the Enterprise is back at full warp.  We’re behind schedule but still within the window for delivery.  Our passengers have been told we’re out of danger.  That isn’t entirely true.  Logs recovered from the cruiser’s utility drone confirm that its engines were deliberately sabotaged, and whoever did it is now a guest aboard my ship.  Tonight we’ve set a trap, with the drone as bait.  If our saboteur wants to keep their secret, they’ll have to come for him.  And we’ll be waiting. Kirk has reassured his guests that the repairs are complete and the delivery is on schedule.  He adds, in passing, that Carter and Data are working on Dunsel.  Curiously, the drone’s memory stores were wiped, but they’re confident they can fully restore them by morning. Dunsel is parked in the science lab for the night, apparently unguarded.  In reality, crew members are lying in wait while others monitor the lab on a hidden feed. Hours pass.  Nobody comes.  Internal sensors show all four guests in their quarters the entire night. Then, the warp core goes offline.  The Enterprise drops out of warp and the ship goes dark except for emergency lighting and life support. Scotty reports that the core is intact, but something has knocked it out, and he can’t tell what.  On the bridge, Data picks up a subspace signal coming from somewhere inside the ship: a beacon, broadcasting the Enterprise’s position.  Then long-range sensors show a ship approaching at high warp. The trap was set for the mole, but the mole had other plans. The mystery ship will arrive in minutes, and there aren’t enough hands to do everything. What do you do? A) Locate the beacon.  Silence it before the mystery ship can lock on to the Enterprise’s position.  It’s somewhere aboard, and the search will pull crew away from defending the ship. B) Prepare to repel boarders.  Place armed teams at key points and a guard on Zax.  The ship will be ready for a fight, but the beacon keeps transmitting its signal. C) Hit them first.  Load a strike team onto the puddle jumper and board the mystery ship before its crew can board yours.  It could end the threat before it starts, but it sends your best fighters off the Enterprise, leaving you at a clear disadvantage if you are boarded. Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.5 – Persons of Interest) #Amalgaverse With all hands sheltered in the shielded core, the baryon sweep rolls across the Enterprise, a red glow moving section by section from the nacelles to the engineering hull, then finally up and over the saucer.  The subspace organisms burn and flake away into space, and the hull comes up clean. But the sweep has scorched the warp coils.  “Cooked,”says Scotty, “like a Burns Night haggis.”  He starts repairs while the Enterprise limps on through the corridor at reduced warp.  The margin on Zax’s delivery is shrinking by the hour. With the ship out of danger for the moment, the crew turns its attention to the passengers. Thor volunteers to ask Zax what makes him worth all this trouble.  Zax is delighted to tell him, launching into a series of personal reflections that provide absolutely no insight into his current circumstances but paint an excruciatingly detailed portrait of his childhood on Rigel and his strong opinions on Andorian theater.  Two hours in, Thor raises a hand and says: “Stop talking.”  Zax falls silent, mid-sentence.  “Thank you,”says Thor.  He leaves, later reporting: “I learned nothing.  Except that Andorian theater is apparently very derivative.” Aeryn Sun takes a seat across from Lucinda in Ten Forward and attempts to engage her in conversation.  But Lucinda neither confirms nor denies anything, and politely turns every question back on Aeryn. “She never sits with her back to the door,”notes Aeryn, “and always keeps her right hand free.  Clocks anyone who comes within three metras of her.  She’s ex-military.  I’d know.” Daniel shares a meal with Milo, expecting small talk, and ends up deep in a debate about the Ancients. “He made a couple of great points about ascension I’d never even considered,”marvels Daniel.  “And I’ve actually ascended!” G’Kar, no stranger to diplomats, finds Robespierre happy to discuss his distinguished career, including the three promotions he was unfairly denied.  Every question about the mission, however, meets a polite and immovable wall. “He reminds me of a Centauri I know,”says G’Kar.  “All smiles, and a vault of secrets behind them.” Then Carter calls you to engineering.  She and Data have been piecing together data recovered from Dunsel, who trundles nearby, cheerfully greeting the same wall panel for the third time. When the cruiser’s engines failed, Dunsel apparently ran a diagnostic and logged his findings before anyone could stop him.  The failure was no accident.  Someone sabotaged the engines and forced the cruiser out of warp, which is how the mercs knew exactly where to find it.  Then they tried to bury the evidence by wiping Dunsel’s memory stores.  The wipe damaged his neural network, which explains his odd behavior. Someone aboard that cruiser sabotaged their own ship.  And that someone is now aboard the Enterprise. What do you do first? A) Search the guest quarters.  Fast and direct, but a careful mole will have hidden anything worth finding, and you’ll have tipped your hand.  Also, a diplomat’s quarters are off limits, and Robespierre will make sure Starfleet hears about it. B) Request background checks from Starfleet Command.  They’ll be thorough but slow, and the answers may not arrive before the delivery. C) Surreptitiously question them about their whereabouts in the hour the cruiser was sabotaged, but don't tip your hand. D) Confront them.  Gather all four passengers, announce there’s a saboteur among them, and watch how each one reacts.  It might shake something loose, or it might drive the mole to ground. E) Use Dunsel as bait.  Let word slip that his memory can be fully restored, and watch who comes for him.  It could catch the mole in the act, but Dunsel may not survive a second attempt. Choose! Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.4 – Hitchhikers) #Amalgaverse Garak enters the briefing room carrying two cups of tea, Early Grey, hot, and takes a seat across from its sole other occupant, Algernon.  Garak smiles amiably and notes: “Forgive me, I’m a tailor by trade and can’t help but notice.  That armor is magnificent.  Hand-riveted and fitted to the man. I do admire a gentleman of refinement, especially one who’s had to make his way in a rough trade.” “Kind of you to say,”replies the burly merc.  “It has served me well in my travails through the Hadrion Sector.”  Then, dropping the pleasantries: “If you’re here to repeat the Captain’s terms, I’m afraid my answer hasn’t changed.” “Oh, I’m not here on the Captain’s behalf,”Garak informs him.  “I’m here on yours.  Your employer will, no doubt, soon be wondering what you’ve told us.” Algernon is unfazed by the subtle threat: “Men in our trade are arrested every other week, old chap.  Starfleet can announce we’ve sung like Vaborian string birds, and no one worth fearing will believe a word of it.” “From Starfleet, certainly not,”agrees Garak.  Then, leaning in conspiratorially: “But scurrilous rumors of that sort have a way of finding the whisper network of underground back channels.  THOSE command the proper attention.” Algernon’s eyes narrow: “And you claim to have such contacts?” Garak throws his hands up in mock surrender and sits back, all smiles.  “Of course not.  I’m just plain, simple Garak.  A humble tailor.” Algernon relaxes.  A beat. Then Garak, as if struck by a thought: “Speaking of which, when you inevitably make your way back to the Hadrion Sector, give my regards to Glaxnor the Miscreant.” Algernon shifts uncomfortably in his tiny chair.  “Glaxnor?  You know Glaxnor?” “Only professionally.  I made him a coat of Betazoid silk last season.  He was thrilled with the results.”  A knowing smile.  “Please, do tell him I asked after him.” Algernon considers.  Then talks.  He reveals that he and Mira were hired through a faceless go-between, but the payment came from a Klingon Great House.  He lowers his voice: “Our employer was most insistent that this Harven Zax be taken alive.  He’s carrying something of theirs, you see.  A secret worth a war.  And before they kill him, they mean to learn who else he’s shared it with.”   He adds that they were given the coordinates of the cruiser transporting Zax, only to drop out of warp far too close to a black hole, which is where the Enterprise found them.  Garak finds this odd.  The cruiser’s engines failed without warning.  So how did anyone know where to find it? Meanwhile, on the bridge, Kirk is awaiting an update from Garak when, suddenly, the ship shudders.  Scotty flags an energy drain which Data traces to the nacelles.   Data uses the hull sensors to build a composite image of the ship’s exterior, revealing: Both nacelles crusted with glittering green growth, creeping down the pylons and across the engineering hull, climbing the neck towards the saucer. Whatever it is, it’s alive.  And growing. Data finds a match in an old Vulcan survey entry: subspace organisms that feed on warp fields.   Unfortunately, the entry offers no solution.  The survey crew documented the infestation as it consumed their ship, but never found a way to stop it.  Their log was recovered by a salvage crew that found the ship adrift and drained of all power, the organisms long gone. How do you deal with them? A) Starve them.  Drop out of warp and let the nacelles go cold.  It will cost hours the Enterprise can’t spare, and nobody knows how long these things can last without feeding. B) Burn them off.  Rig the ship to hit her own nacelles with a baryon sweep.  It could strip them clean, but the sweep might also damage the warp coils the ship needs to deliver Zax on time. C) Flush them off.  Vent warp plasma through the nacelles and blast them loose.  The ship will lose plasma it needs to stay at speed, and the trail it leaves will lead anyone hunting Zax straight to the Enterprise. Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.3 – The Mercs) #Amalgaverse The Enterprise is en route through the Klingon corridor, bound for the rendezvous.  While Data works on Dunsel down in engineering, you check in on your two other guests. In the briefing room, under guard, sit the two mercs you rescued from the black hole’s event horizon. As you settle in, Mira, the wild-eyed old pirate, twitches in her chair, pounds the table and launches into something only barely resembling language: “Aaaar!  Ye frontin’ tall, but lemme ‘splain.  Ye bet yer vee we gunnin’ fer a tract, lest we go no talk-talk!” Beside her, her hulking partner, Algernon, speaks up, in a deep, cultured voice nobody expected: “Do forgive my associate.  Her command of the language is, shall we say, impressionistic.  What she is endeavoring to convey is that we should be delighted to arrive at some mutually agreeable arrangement.  A quid pro quo, if you will: the information you so clearly desire in exchange for our liberty.” What do you do? A) Make the deal.  Let them go free at the next port and get your answers now, trusting that the information is worth it. B) Refuse the deal.  Send them back to the brig to think about it, then hand them over to the authorities at the rendezvous if they still haven’t cooperated. C) Send in Garak.  Let him have a quiet word with them.  He may get the truth without a bargain, but there’s no telling what methods he’ll use or what it might cost you with Kirk. Choose! Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.2 – Close Quarters) #Amalgaverse Who is Harven Zax and why does someone want him so badly? The orders don't say. The Enterprise is on her way, and Starfleet’s orders remain thin: deliver Harven Zax to a set of coordinates on the far side of the Expanse before the deadline and hand him over to whoever is waiting there.  The orders don’t say who. With time to kill, the crew gets its first real look at their guests. Harven Zax holds court in Ten Forward, regaling all with dubious tales of his own daring.  None of the dates or places in his stories quite line up, and he seems confident no one will notice. Lucinda Shockley, his bodyguard, has a deadpan wit and the air of someone you do not want to cross.  She shadows Zax, yet her eyes keep drifting to his young protégé, Milo.  Unrequited love, perhaps? Milo, for his part, keeps to the edges at first.  Once he opens up, however, he turns out to be quite knowledgeable about the border sector’s tangled history.  A true nerd. Oswin Robespierre has clearly never waited for anything in his life and is handling the novelty badly.  He complains about his quarters and keeps a sealed diplomatic pouch close at hand, refusing every offer to lock it in the ship’s secure vault. And then there’s Dunsel, clanking after everyone like an adopted stray.  Something is wrong with him.  He starts tasks and forgets them halfway through, and every so often he freezes, lights dimming, before shuffling on.  Data suspects damage to his memory core and offers to take a look, though the repair could shut him down for good. The orders say where to take Zax but not why he’s worth so much trouble.  Kirk isn’t satisfied.  If the Enterprise is going to protect this man, the crew needs to know who might come for him and why. Where do you start? A) Question Zax.  Go straight to the source and ask the man himself why he’s worth all this trouble. B) Ask Lucinda.  His bodyguard must know who has been coming after him, and why. C) Talk to Milo.  A protégé hears everything, and the shy but friendly young man may say more than his employer would. D) Press Robespierre.  He is the Federation’s man on this trip, and he likely knows what Starfleet is holding back. E) Fix Dunsel.  Help Data repair the little robot, knowing it could cost Dunsel what’s left of his memory. Choose! And recruit a crewmate. Share this with a fellow fan! Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.1 - Escape Velocity) #Amalgaverse The Enterprise shudders against the gravitational pull as Thor’s counter-field takes hold.  Her main deflector brightens, projecting a cone of light ahead of the ship.  Inside it, the warped starlight straightens, and a corridor of calm space slowly opens, narrow and trembling at the edges. Kirk orders full impulse.  The Enterprise presses forward, the deck shaking as her saucer pushes into the corridor.   From engineering, Scotty warns that the deflector is overheating and the field won’t last much longer. “Ninety seconds,”Data reports. The hull groans.  A console sparks. The saucer is in calm space now, but nacelles are still outside, and without them there is no warp. “Thirty seconds.” The nacelles slide across the threshold. “Warp speed.  Now!”orders Kirk. The Enterprise leaps to warp.  Behind her, the corridor collapses and the black hole is left with nothing. Scotty reports: “Deflector’s scorched, Captain, but she held.  Took everything she had, mind.  I’ll need a day with her before she does anything that fancy again.” With Harven Zax and his party safely aboard, the Enterprise sets course for the rendezvous on the other side of the expanse.  Starfleet’s deadline leaves just under fifty-five hours to get there. There are three ways to go, none of them safe. A) The Klingon corridor.  It’s the fastest route, a straight warp run with hours to spare.  It passes through the border territory of a Klingon Great House that purportedly wants Zax dead. B) The frontier.  A long warp detour around Klingon space that eats deep into your margin.  The space it crosses belongs to the Orion Syndicate and is full of bounty hunters who know exactly what Zax is worth. C) The expanse.  The shortest line on the map, but gravity shear makes warp impossible inside, so the ship has to cross at sublight and will arrive with almost no time to spare.  Nobody patrols it, which avoids the Klingons and the Syndicate, but there’s no backup to rely on if anything goes wrong. Twitter's auto-translate feature is wonderful. Thanks to that, and the existence of VPNs in the Workers' Paradise, I have discovered that the political and historical views of the average Chinese Communist are indistinguishable from your average humanities student in the West. Actual carbon-copy rhetoric. All the same talking points. The same fantasy world. Entirely the same style. "Mao was terrible and debased the proud history of his country." "Oh yeah? What about [insert microwaved Leninist Alt History agitslop]". They're just as proud of their ability to copy-paste generic scripts. Their interchangeability does not occur to them, much less bother them. They conform to the Party Line like it's their religion — which, in a very real sense, it is. They even argue with Grok the same way when it gives them the "wrong" facts. The similarity is unnerving, but I'm sure there are no implications there whatsoever. (Deng was a much better and more interesting leader than Mao, even admitting that little accident in Tiananmen. China has a long and fascinating history. But you cannot convince Communists to prize competence, pick worthy heroes, or value true history. Theirs is, at its root, monkey psychology, not a coherent ideology — which is why it takes the same base form across countries, cultures, and eras.)
Many Western nations managed to "uplift farmers and the working class" without killing upwards of 30 million of them. We did this, generally, without empowering student mobs to trash all the history we now claim we're proud of, and without massacring the wealthy and the educated on the altar of cultural revolution. One of the many ironies of the modern Chinese nationalist is that, were it not for generals countermanding the Red Guard, the evidence they claim for their greatness would have been totally destroyed by Mao's own faction. We have no equivalent of Mao's campaign against the Four Olds, having largely gotten over iconoclastic religious hysteria in medieval times. We never went around killing sparrows to avert famine (which caused a surge in locusts that made famine worse) — of all our many retarded leaders, none have been so retarded as that. Our war heroes did not hide in mountains waiting for the Kuomintang to do all their fighting for them, only to emerge and claim credit after the fact. The Communists are not war heroes. They drove the war heroes out of the country they fought to save. We have managed to make modern nations of citizens, not subjects; and our technological prowess today is the product of invention, not theft. We have empowered our ethnic and religious minorities, almost to a fault, while the Chinese government locks them up in camps that we consider horrors. As is usually the case, Communist doctrines of "colonialism" and "imperialism" - the latter a Leninist propaganda trick designed to save Marxism from all its failed predictions - are spread today to spare Communism the shame of its own deeds. And we are able (and even encouraged) to criticise our most important leaders and heroes, while the Communist Party apparatchik must debase his own intellect before he is allowed to speak. China does have a rich and wonderful history. Mao created none of it, and destroyed much of it. The fat ass of his legacy squats on what remains.

Farage: "If those Restore supporters online see that we are the only vehicle, genuinely on the centre-right, that can beat the Labour Party and come back to us, then our polling will start to look very different, very quickly." Here's what Farage doesn't understand. We are not a "centre-right" party. Our voters are not "centre-right." The country was governed by the "centre-right" for 14 years, and they brought us to the brink of destruction. The "centre-right" are, in many ways, the greatest traitors of all. The Left are at least honest about their intentions towards us; the "centre-right" dress it up in a pinstripe suit and posh accent. But their ideology will still see us reduced to a hated and marginalised minority in our own homeland. You are not going to win our voters over by appealing to the "centre-right." We are radicals. We don't care what the "centre" thinks of us. In fact, we despise them. If Farage is serious about this, perhaps he should reconsider the offer we made him in August.

It seems PhDs are given out as participation trophies these days.
1/ The man most likely to rape a White British woman isn't on a small boat or an immigrant. He's her partner or her ex. The graph by @TheEconomist is doing rounds, and @RestoreBritain , @reformparty_uk and the rest of the circus of the self-appointed protectors of White British women think that it proves their made up point: that White British women's biggest danger is immigrant men. Well, data and facts say a different story, a story that the circus of the self-appointed protectors of White British women don't want normal people to know. Here's the data. 🧵
