If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word ‘latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

👻 “I can’t go through the Haunted Wood, Marilla,” cried Anne...There’s a white lady walks along the brook just about this time of the night and wrings her hands and utters wailing cries. 💀 And there’s a headless man stalks up and down the path and skeletons glower at you . 👀

“And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling–my darling–my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea–
In her tomb by the sounding sea.”

A widespread Bavarian folk belief holds that, on the night of 31 October to 1 November, the dead rise from their graves and attend a mass in the churches, which is celebrated by a dead priest. As a living person, one should not disturb such a mass, otherwise one will incur the wrath of the dead.

You could feel the presence of something old on All Hallow's Eve; boundaries about to breach, the skin of reality stretched so thin you might go seeing through it any minute, to your benefit or your harm.
