#DidYouKnow Quantum annealing, used in quantum computers, is based on quantum tunneling – the phenomenon where a quantum object’s wave function can propagate through a potential barrier.

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is thermal radiation from the early universe that fills space. By studying certain features of the CMB scientists try to understand the early universe. Fermilab participates in experiments that try to obtain precise measurements of the CMB.

What keeps you both cool and warm while lowering energy use by up to 25%? The U.S. DOE estimates that positioning just 3 trees can significantly reduce a home's energy consumption and energy bill by $100 to $250 per year, cutting air conditioning by 30% and heating by 20-50%.

#DidYouKnow @Fermilab quantum sensors are used to search for theoretical dark matter particles, called axions. In a strong magnetic field, axions can convert into photons. Quantum sensors can detect single photons from axions.

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment uses germanium & silicon crystals to try detecting dark matter particles. Particles passing through the detector create very small signals, comparing signals between faces of the same crystal lets us identify particles passing through.

#DidYouKnow Quantum computers take advantage of quantum phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement; they can process many inputs simultaneously instead of having to go through them one by one like a conventional machine.
