Awesome. Nothing like building ion segregation rather than fixing the public system. Why is governing so hard for this government?
It’s been a full year since I quit my job without a replacement position lined up. And it wasn’t the end of the world! So happy with how things turned out. 🥳
Happy for this but what an embarrassment for Canada that it’s been that long.

Christian nationalists are a plague.
With the separatist petition effort having failed, attention is now shifting to another core part of Premier Danielle Smith’s political base: Christian nationalists.
These groups have grown increasingly organized across rural Alberta and, in many cases, into urban centres. Their rhetoric frequently targets people who differ from them—immigrants, First Nations peoples, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities, those labelled “woke,” and women seeking reproductive healthcare. What began as echo chambers has translated into coordinated political pressure.
The same ideological networks have also aligned with segments of the American-influenced oil and gas industry that prioritize expanded production and profits, often at the expense of water, land, air quality, and existing rights and protections. The Premier’s earlier remark that “Jesus would have approved of the West Coast pipeline” illustrated how religious framing is being used to advance energy projects.
The pattern is not unique to Alberta. Similar coalitions of religious conservatism and fossil-fuel interests have long shaped politics in places like Texas, where the results for public services, minority rights, and environmental regulation are well documented. Albertans should watch closely how this base continues to influence government priorities now that the separation question has receded.
