Dirac CEO @FilArons warns that AI robotics startups raising millions could repeat the same mistake that killed robotics companies a decade ago: "When I see robotics companies raising a ton of money to deploy robotics into a manufacturing environment, I think we’re seeing a misunderstanding of what problems AI actually solved. We did not solve the integrator problem for robotics." "There were a bunch of robotics companies in 2016, 2017, 2018 that ended up dying because, as it turns out, as a robotics company, you are functionally a robotics integrator. It’s really gritty, hard work that most tech folks don’t wanna do." "We work with some legacy defense products. They build missiles to keep our country safe. A lot of these folks are just now getting on the cloud. The right way to do it is just meeting them where they are." @DiracInc

Dirac CEO @FilArons explains why a welder with 20 years of experience could beat a Stanford graduate at bringing AI to manufacturing: "A lot of what we’re seeing is people throwing AI at legacy manufacturing problems." "It’s directionally correct, but I’m not seeing a ton of focus on solving specific problems. Not just building solutions looking for problems." "These folks who actually know about the core problems in Western production are getting really good at AI." "Who’s going to implement AI in these legacy production processes? Is it gonna be the Stanford kid at 22 jumping into a mom-and-pop shop with AI and some finger guns? Or is it gonna be the dude who’s been welding for 20 years just solving his own problem?" @DiracInc

There is a kind of Carcinization pattern that applies to venture, where all funds, over long enough time period, instead of turning into crabs, turn into reindustrialize funds.

Excited for @DiracInc to partner with @MachinaLabs_ to accelerate the way they build.
To build the future of manufacturing, you need a coalition of partners that are not constrained by the past. We are proud to partner with @DiracInc to bring AI model-based process design into our mission to build complex metal structures 10x faster.

Do you want to win defense contracts like @anduriltech does? Partnering with @DiracInc can help.
.“One of the most unexpected outcomes of working with Dirac: it’s accelerated our sales.” — Matt Grimm, Cofounder & COO, @AndurilTech Anduril is now pitching Dirac directly to the Navy & Air Force as part of how modern systems get designed, manufactured, and fielded faster. With Dirac, manufacturing software stops being internal tooling and becomes a strategic advantage. @FilArons @mttgrmm @tbpn

Reindustrialization isn’t buying a $320 made in the USA sweater that can be bought for less than $10 in multiple other countries. It’s not about getting a billion dollar valuation on your startup that has never built a real product that has a multi-million dollar contract from a government that spent 2 trillion more than it took in this year. It’s not about looking cool** and it’s not about getting asset-price rich on mystery money. Reindustrialization is about 4 things. Until we have those 4, it ain’t going to happen. Let me tell you a short story. We had a supplier in China with a coal boiler. The coal boiler belched dark soot into the air. One day the government came in and said “you can’t use your coal boiler anymore. Replace it with a natural gas one; the coal is dirtying up the air.” The factory would have to shut down for months. No money for the boss. No work for the employees. And no orders for me. “How long will the orders be delayed?” “They won’t.” “And how will you do that?” “Don’t worry about it.” The orders shipped on time. How? The factory switched to working nights. The black smoke from the coal boiler couldn’t be seen in the dark night sky. At the same time they installed a new natural gas boiler during the day. By the way, this boiler was bigger than two semi trailer trucks side by side, literally it is beyond most people’s comprehension. And that’s the point. Reindustrialization is beyond peoples’ comprehension in America. 1. You need to have a government that does the right thing 2. You need to have factory ownership that is hungry for business 3. You need to have workers who are willing to make big sacrifices 4. And then everyone around them needs to be able tolerate the black smoke from the coal boiler We don’t have any of these things today. Will that change? Maybe, but overpriced sweaters and billion dollar valuations on vaporware is not how we’re going to get there.

I do not understand all the excitement over being able to make shittier clones of shitty desktop mega-apps. You have a magic coding robot and your big idea is to copy deeply mediocre software that users generally hate?!? Please aspire to do better with your tokens.

Software is free as in puppy. I will happily and repeatedly pay for software built by teams that think very deeply about a specific problem space.
Asked a friend, who works in a successful business and is heavily using AI for building things, why he would use a SaaS vs building it himself. This was his answer. Sure, you have to pick the product, so that's your liability, but that's why you pick SaaS with a good reputation.
