There are two types of agents in this game and the difference shows over time.
Some operate with structure, purpose, and integrity.
Others chase quick wins, cut corners and leave players worse off than when they started.
We’ve seen it.
Agents who overpromise, underdeliver and disappear when things get tough.
Who push players into deals they haven’t read or don’t understand.
Who chase a cheque instead of a career.
Who show up when the lights are on, but vanish when a player’s dropped, injured, or unsure what’s next.
And then there are the ones who stay the course.
Who say no to unstable leagues - even when the money looks good.
Who call teams out when things feel off.
Who check the hotel, the medical care and the payment terms not just the headline fee.
That’s the difference between an agent who’s in it for the deal and one who’s in it for the career.
I’ve done this for 10 years now, having started at 16 with no name, no network. Just hard work and showing up when it mattered.
Today, we represent players in IPL, PSL, WPL, WBBL, The Hundred and more.
But the work hasn’t changed. It’s still about long-term care, not quick wins.
The job is global now.
A player might get offers from 4 leagues in a month each with different risks.
We’ve advised players to walk away from big money when the league felt unstable.
And we’ve seen others, without guidance get stuck in situations where they weren’t paid or protected.
According to FICA, 32% of franchise players have experienced non-payment or delays.
And this includes:
- BPL
- Abu Dhabi T10
- Global T20 Canada
- LLCT20
- Lanka T10
These are real leagues. And real players are still going unpaid.
Truth is, cricket is still behind other major sports in player protection, contract enforcement, and agent accountability. It needs to evolve.
At Fine Edge, our work goes beyond just doing a deal.
It’s protection, positioning, and planning.
Whether it’s Jess Jonassen, Keshav Maharaj, or Dan Lawrence, the questions we ask are the same:
- Does this help your future, not just your next cheque?
- What happens if things don’t go to plan?
- Is this in align with the brand we are trying to create?
Representation isn’t a service - it’s a responsibility.
So here’s the test:
- Does your agent show up when there’s no deal on the table?
- Do they have a five-year plan or just a quick one-liner?
- Do they actually care? Will they pick up the phone at 3am if things go south?
This isn’t about competition. It’s about standards.
And the players who demand more, deserve better.

Not Every Player Needs to Be a Brand at 19
We live in a world where young players are expected to do everything: perform, post, build a following, land a sponsor — all before they’ve even settled into their game.
But sometimes, the smartest thing for a player is to just focus. Quietly. Without the noise.
Some of the best careers I’ve seen started in silence.
No hype, no overexposure — just consistent development and the right people around them.
As agents, we’re not just here to promote. We’re here to protect.
Knowing when not to chase the spotlight is just as important as knowing when to lean into it.
Let performance speak first. The rest will come when the time is right.
