Excited about the Portland 2.0 kickoff event co-hosted by @OPB and @psu_cupa today. Our job is sharing "The Portland Story" with the world, so we're grateful to be included in this important discussion about where we go from here. Be a part of it! portland2.org

4th & Harrison groundbreaking: @PSUPresident is excited about having a permanent home for the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, saying it “exemplifies our universities’ dedication to equity and providing opportunities, hands-on learning and research.” pdx.edu/news/groundbreaking-…
Especially this rapid response to homelessness-- 3 months to residency once gov't gives them land on which to site the modular housing. They're also spending serious money to ensure the "zombie homes" etc stay habitable. Good stuff!
Really impressed by Shane Ramsey's work at @BC_Housing-- they're addressing both supply & demand in their 30-point plan for affordable housing provision.

Arrived in Suwon today, largest city in Gyeonggi Province, most populous in S. Korea. Gyeonggi = "area surrounding the capital [Seoul]". It's shaped like a doughnut, which is apt, since they love 🥯 here. It's also the home of Samsung, whose CEO is very powerful politically.
It was a great honor and pleasure to share the afternoon with Jeonju, South Korea Mayor Seung-Su Kim at his forum discussing transforming streets for people. The Open Streets movement is global. We were excited to share lessons from Portland and to learn from his city #FSP2KR xitter.gq/FirstStopPDX/status/10…

Headed out of Seoul for a few days by high speed rail via Yongsan Station. Hard to communicate the immensity of this bldg: 3 stories subway & 2 stories rail topped by 5 story (?) shopping center. It's controlled chaos: people everywhere, place spotless, trains like clockwork.

Yeah, inside Seoul much better ped realm, esp in older areas, but megastreets still reign supreme. First two adjacent to arterial. They try hard to keep peds safe w/o limiting autos... at all. You can wait a loooong time to cross, even at 6am.
Loved the kimchee and other garnishes from your region except... ...the worms!
Thanks also for the lunch of fried mackeral and dolsot bibimbap (stone bowl soup). It was delish! (You pour hot water in the stone rice pot after serving. It stews during the meal, then you calm stomach and nerves w hot broth afterward.) #FSP2KR

The city is still not full (350/500K at present) so the roads are still overbuilt. The signals felt fine, and I noticed add'l ped safety infra. The scale is a bit big for ideal ped conditions though seemed GREAT for bikes. Red zone = vulnerable pop warning, speed limit 30KPH
