Fitness and wellness work better as a wider circle of support than as solo grind. Help someone else regulate. Help yourself too. People first—the recognition can come later.

A massive clinical trial evaluating 830 young children has confirmed that brushing a specialized liquid medication directly onto active dental caries can halt the progression of tooth decay. The noninvasive procedure completely eliminates the need for conventional dental drilling, local anesthetic injections, or sedative drugs during application, with each individual tooth requiring only a few seconds of contact to receive the full therapeutic dose. Known scientifically as silver diamine fluoride, or SDF, the experimental formulation successfully arrested the decay process in more than half of all treated lesions, whereas only about one-fifth of the lesions in the parallel placebo group spontaneously ceased worsening. Led by investigators at the University of Michigan, the Phase III study tested a 38 percent concentration of the solution on children experiencing advanced decay throughout their primary dentition. The young participants were randomly assigned to receive either the active chemical compound or an inactive placebo substance, with a secondary follow-up application administered six months into the protocol. The medicine relies on a dual mechanism where the silver component aggressively neutralizes decay-causing oral bacteria and the fluoride component fortifies the remaining enamel and dentin matrix against further acid degradation. Instead of physically excavating compromised biological tissue to prepare a tooth for a standard composite or amalgam filling, the topical agent functions strictly to freeze the lesion in place, though it lacks the structural ability to regenerate missing parts of the tooth. Clinical deployment of the treatment involves a highly visible aesthetic compromise because the silver compound permanently oxidizes the active decay site, turning the internal walls of the cavity completely black. This profound discoloration poses cosmetic concerns that can be particularly striking when the medication is applied to anterior teeth near the front of the mouth. Nevertheless, the speed and ease of application provide a crucial therapeutic alternative for toddlers and young children who struggle to tolerate prolonged, high-anxiety traditional dental work, enabling providers to safely manage early childhood caries while delaying or bypassing invasive operational procedures. Parents and practitioners must recognize that the chemical approach does not resolve every single cavity and demands continuous, long-term monitoring. Certain treated structures will inevitably require subsequent structural fillings, crowns, or alternative restorative procedures to regain full functionality. Although this cost-effective technique has enjoyed extensive international utilization for several decades, the rigorous data published in JAMA Pediatrics provides the necessary foundational proof within the United States to highlight how a basic, brush-on solution can rapidly bring severe childhood decay under control across diverse populations. [Fontana, M., Moursi, A., Gonzalez-Cabezas, C., et al. (2026). Efficacy of Silver Diamine Fluoride on Young Children With Severe Early Childhood Caries: A Randomized Clinical Trial. JAMA Pediatrics, 180(9), 942. doi:10.1001/jamapediatrics.2026.2567]

Scientists are exploring a natural way to remove microplastics from water What if a tree could help tackle one of the world’s growing pollution problems? Researchers are studying *Moringa oleifera*, commonly known as the moringa tree, to explore its potential for water purification. Laboratory research suggests that materials derived from moringa may help attract and separate suspended particles from water. Scientists are investigating whether these natural properties could also help remove microplastics. Some laboratory tests have reported removal rates of up to 98%, but this figure does not mean moringa can remove 98% of microplastics from all drinking water. Why is this important? Moringa is already being investigated for its potential use in water treatment. As a renewable biological resource, it could offer an additional approach to developing more sustainable filtration methods. However, further research is needed to establish its effectiveness against different types of microplastics and determine whether the treated water is safe to drink. Could a natural material from a tree become part of the future of water purification?

Groundbreaking botanical research is challenging the long-held belief in human exceptionalism, suggesting that plants possess forms of spatial awareness, intentionality, and consciousness. For centuries, humans have regarded plants as passive organisms, but pioneering studies are rewriting this view. According to plant neurobiologist Dr. Stefano Mancuso, plants display sophisticated behaviors that parallel those of conscious animals. In laboratory experiments, plants react to anesthesia in ways strikingly similar to humans and animals — for instance, the Venus flytrap becomes completely unresponsive when anesthetized. Time-lapse studies further reveal remarkable intelligence in common bean plants, which demonstrate clear spatial awareness by precisely aiming shoots toward supports and even adjusting their growth strategy when they detect another plant has already claimed a support. These findings indicate that consciousness may not be limited to organisms with brains, but could be a more flexible property emerging in diverse life forms. As trees migrate northward in response to climate change, mirroring animal migration, researchers argue that our understanding of “mind” must expand beyond traditional boundaries. With over three trillion trees on Earth, acknowledging plant consciousness could transform our ethical frameworks, agricultural practices, and relationship with nature, shifting from viewing plants as mere resources to recognizing them as active, aware participants in our shared ecosystem. [Yokawa, K., Kagenishi, T., Pavlovič, A., Gall, S., Weiland, M., Mancuso, S., & Baluška, F. (2018). Anaesthetics stop diverse plant organ movements, affect endocytic vesicle recycling and ROS homeostasis, and block action potentials in Venus flytraps. Annals of Botany, 122(5), 747–756. What if one of the missing pieces in your hormone health is actually your mitochondria? Most people associate mitochondria with energy production. But these tiny structures inside your cells also play a critical role in hormone production, cellular repair, and reproductive health. In this conversation, Dr. Ann Shippy shares her approach that focuses on addressing underlying factors that could be affect your health, including environmental toxin exposure, nutrient deficiencies, microbiome health, and chronic stress. When your body is under chronic stress, the signaling pathways that regulate cortisol and reproductive hormones can also be affected. That's why supporting your health at the cellular level is so important. It's not just about managing symptoms. It's about understanding what your cells need to function optimally. 🎙️ Head to The Dr. Josh Axe Show to watch this full episode with Dr. Ann Shippy, where we dive deeper into hormones, fertility, and the factors influencing reproductive health. #mitochondrialhealth #cellularhealing #hormonehealth

One of the most powerful anti-inflammatory compounds in nature comes from a food mentioned throughout Scripture: olive oil. In the landmark PREDIMED study, a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil was associated with approximately a 30% reduction in major cardiovascular events compared with a control diet. But here's something I want you to understand: inflammation isn't always something you can feel. You could be eating well, exercising, and making healthier choices while still having underlying cardiovascular risk factors that deserve attention. That's why I believe in looking beyond the standard bloodwork most people receive annually. Markers like hs-CRP, which measures systemic inflammation, and ApoB, which helps assess cardiovascular risk, can provide additional insight into what's happening inside your body. At The Health Institute, we take a functional medicine approach to bloodwork, looking at your biomarkers alongside your symptoms, health history, and overall health goals rather than relying on a simple "normal" or "abnormal" label. And right now, I'm offering a special discount on my comprehensive bloodwork panel, which includes a personalized review of your results and guidance on next steps. A single administration of urea-powered nanobots has reduced bladder tumour volume by approximately 90 percent in an orthotopic murine model, providing a potential advance for the treatment of bladder cancer. Investigators at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia and CIC biomaGUNE constructed self-propelled swarm nanobots composed of mesoporous silica spheres functionalised with the enzyme urease. These microscopic devices catalyse the conversion of urea present in urine, generating the mechanical force required for active propulsion within the bladder. In contrast to conventional chemotherapeutic agents that rely on passive diffusion and are readily diluted or eliminated by urine flow, the nanobots continuously swim, penetrate the tumour extracellular matrix, and accumulate within neoplastic tissue, where they deliver a localised payload of radioactive iodine. Current standard management of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer often necessitates repeated intravesical instillations because therapeutic agents are rapidly washed out, contributing to high rates of recurrence. By concentrating the radiotherapeutic isotope at the tumour site through active motion, the nanobots achieved substantial tumour reduction after a single dose in preclinical studies. Although the findings derive from murine models and further investigation is required to establish clinical translation, the approach offers a means of improving retention and efficacy of localised therapy while potentially reducing the frequency of hospital-based treatments.
