With all eyes on today's Autumn Budget, there's another important deadline landlords may want to keep in mind.
If you're already using Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, your next quarterly update may be due on 7 November, covering the period from 6 July to 5 October.
MTD came into effect in April 2026 for landlords and sole traders with qualifying income over £50,000. The threshold will fall to £30,000 from April 2027, bringing more landlords into the system.
Why does this matter for your Buy-to-Let mortgage?
Keeping your rental income and financial records up to date can also make remortgaging easier, as lenders need to understand your rental income and overall financial position.

Marvellous @EastSuffolk - when you do collect the food waste bins, you wreck them. Can we have a competent council, please?

Are you thinking about buying your next rental property in a limited company?
More landlords are now buying through a limited company, often called an SPV (special purpose vehicle). It’s not right for everyone, but it’s worth knowing how it can change your mortgage options.
Here are a few differences to know about:
- Different lenders: Not every lender offers limited company Buy-to-Let mortgages, and the ones that do often have their own criteria.
- How much you could borrow: Lenders check that the rent covers the mortgage payments by a set margin. For limited companies this margin is often lower than for higher-rate taxpaying landlords, which could mean a bigger loan on the same rent.
- Personal guarantees: Most lenders will ask directors to personally guarantee the loan.
-Rates and fees: Limited company deals can sometimes come with slightly higher rates or fees, so it pays to compare the total cost.
When you’re ready to look at mortgages, our Buy-to-Let mortgage sourcing tool compares deals from around 100 lenders, including limited company options, with data updated daily.

I suspect with your name over the gates, visitor numbers would soar.
Small guitar and big horses. What could be better?!
Reminds me of speech at end of The American President in which Michael Douglas playing POTUS Andrew Shepherd says, "... is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in 2 things and 2 things only: making you afraid of it & telling you who's to blame for it..."
This guy utterly dismantles the populist politics of Reform and Restore in 90 seconds. It’s actually quite beautiful.
Take decades of deep-rooted problems in Britain and convince people that a relatively tiny proportion of the population is responsible for all of them. Housing, the NHS, crime. Blame illegal migrants for everything.
Suddenly, you don’t need credible solutions to the housing crisis, NHS waiting lists or crime. You just need increasingly extreme policies on immigration.
And by the time people realise you never had meaningful answers to the vast majority of Britain’s problems, you’re already in power, handing out tax cuts to your donors.
Back home after another trip around some of #America's magnificent national parks, thanks @NatlParkService!
However, it will be my last until such time as the grotesque tariff imposed by @realDonaldTrump on non-US citizens is revoked.
There is plenty #Canada has to offer!

Barack Obama at his last press briefing with reporters, 2017:
"I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants. You're supposed to be skeptics. You're supposed to ask me tough questions. You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power."
Thanks for NOT emptying my food waste bin in Hollesley today. I assume it will be okay if I bring it to reception at your #Melton offices tomorrow @EastSuffolk and you can dispose of its contents from there?
What a shame local council reorganisation has been deferred.

I don't have #Netflix, but do have the CD of the show.
Listening to it now for first time in a ages - amazing. Must watch the Disney+ film again.
When is @EE going to sort out its signal in #Woodbridge so it is possible to use the car parking app? Decent signal in #Felixstowe.
An annoying first world problem.

The America vulture capitalists now running Thames Water are trumpeting Liz Barber, former CEO of Yorkshire Water, as the new saviour of the company.
Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would.
Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water.

Thank goodness, they also had Michael Heseltine in their ranks.
45 years ago today.
On this day in 1981, Margaret Thatcher's Cabinet discussed the idea of abandoning Liverpool. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Conservative Chancellor Geoffrey Howe proposed a "managed decline", arguing that investment would be like "trying to make water flow uphill".
Never forget what the establishment think of our city.
