#sapsNW [POLICE DISRUPT PLANNED BUSINESS ROBBERY AND ARREST EIGHT SUSPECTS IN RUSTENBURG] The South African Police Service (#SAPS) in the North West has successfully disrupted a planned business robbery in Rustenburg, resulting in the arrest of eight male suspects between the ages of 26 and 38, and the recovery of several firearms and ammunition. Early on Thursday, 17 September 2026, police received information that a group of suspects travelling in a bronze Volkswagen Polo and a silver Chevrolet, were allegedly planning to execute an armed robbery at a business in the Rustenburg East area. Following the information received, members of the Provincial #AntiGang Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, Rustenburg #CrimeIntelligence, Rustenburg #VisiblePolicing and Provincial Crime Intelligence Overt Operations assembled and the teams were deployed to the identified vicinity. The two vehicles matching the description provided by the source were subsequently observed. When police members approached the suspects and identified themselves as police officers, the suspects allegedly drew firearms and opened fire on the police. The members returned fire in response to the immediate threat and contained the situation. Eight suspects were arrested. Three of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where they remain under police guard. Two unmarked police vehicles were damaged during the incident. Firearms and other exhibits recovered included: a Volkswagen Polo, three pistols, one rifle, various rounds of ammunition, a Chevrolet, and cellphones. The suspects are facing charges that include conspiracy to commit business robbery; eight counts of attempted murder (after shooting at police officers); possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition; malicious damage to property (relating to the damage to the state vehicles) and defeating the ends of justice. The suspects will appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court on Monday, 21 September 2026. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, commended the bravery, cooperation and coordination of the various role players involved in the operation, including Rustenburg Vispol, the Detective Branch, Local Criminal Record Centre, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, Provincial Investigation Unit, and Emergency and Medical Rescue Services. He said: "The fact that our members came under fire during #PoliceSafetyMonth, while carrying out their duty, is a serious reminder of the dangers police officers face in protecting communities. We will not allow criminals to intimidate or attack our members. The swift and coordinated response by our teams prevented what could have been a serious business robbery and resulted in the arrest of all eight suspects." #FightingCrime #TrioCrimes #GunsOffTheStreets #SaferCommunities ST

[CASE DOCKET OPENED AND UNDER INVESTIGATION] The Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit is investigating a case of intimidation. The suspect has been identified as a tenderpreneur, Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima, on social media. A case was opened in Randburg SAPS. This incident took place at Vlamo Restaurant, Sandton Gate, Glenadrienne, on Thursday, 18 September 2026 at approximately 20:15. The complainant was attending a private birthday dinner when “Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima” approached her and her companions, offered to take photographs (which was declined), and later demanded her telephone number. When asked to leave them alone, the man became aggressive and verbally abusive. He uttered threats to shoot and murder the complainant, including a threat to put a bullet in her, and claimed he was a wealthy man who owned the restaurant and would walk free. Waiters intervened and removed the man from the powder-room area. A companion of the suspect later approached the complainant in the dining room, apologised, and urged her not to escalate the matter, stating that the suspect was “well-connected.” The restaurant owner attended after being shown a video of the incident, spoke to the complainant, and had the suspect removed from the premises. No firearm was seen and no physical injuries were reported. Police investigations are underway and the suspect will be brought to justice in due course.

Disobeying the South African Police Service National Instruction 5 of 2017 is a punishable offence in terms of disciplinary regulations. The new trend of posting pictures and video clips in uniform on various social media platforms, directly contravenes National Instruction 5 of 2017. No member may use a profile picture of themselves in uniform or display any police insignia, badges, or logos as their avatar on their private social media accounts. Only with the approval of the Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison may a social media profile be set up for or on behalf of the SAPS on any social network. Accordingly, no station, cluster, unit, or office of the SAPS is permitted to have a social media profile or account without approval. These regulations ensure that all members execute their duties professionally within the confines of the law. Any employee who transgresses in any form or manner will be subjected to the processes of the applicable Disciplinary Regulations. All SAPS members are required to subscribe to the SAPS Code of Conduct and Dress Code and adhere to them when performing their daily duties and interacting with the public. Your efficiency, professionalism, integrity, respect, and empathy are vital to service delivery and the SAPS’s reputation, which in turn influences the community's trust in their police service.
