Our report with @FracTracker found serious problems with how ODNR handles oil and gas incidents. One well went 12 years without an inspection before a tank exploded and spilled nearly 2,500 gallons of oil. ODNR called it minor. athensindependent.com/fractr…

How do you suspend a permit that was never approved? These were regulatory approvals that allowed construction on over 4.2 square miles of land across Texas, for companies like OpenAI, Amazon and other hyperscalers. The pause only got real after we caught TCEQ red-handed.

New report: Ohio recorded 2,529 oil and gas incidents from 2015 through 2025, rising from 103 a year to 268. With @BuckeyeEnviNtwk, we went through ten years of ODNR records. Oversight isn't keeping up. 🧵 fractracker.org/2026/10/ohio…

Bev Reed of @BuckeyeEnviNtwk, on a Marietta well ODNR visited 20 times: "If I get a traffic ticket… I have to pay it within two weeks' time or they're going to escalate. That's not the case with these oil and gas companies, and that's not right."

What we're asking for: clear definitions and open data, more inspectors, fines for long-running violations, and stop-work orders until contamination is cleaned up. ODNR's rules go to the legislature Jan 13. Map: fractracker.org/2026-ohio-in… Data: fractracker.org/2026-odnr-in…

Texas’ data center industry could reverse much of the state’s progress on air quality by the end of the decade, according to report by @HARCresearch. The impact on air quality depends heavily on how data centers are powered. #txlege For @TexasTribune texastribune.org/2026/10/20/…

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has paused issuing permits connected to construction or infrastructure “directly supporting data centers." But an advocacy group fighting data center development along with concerned residents says that some TCEQ permits have still been moving along. texastribune.org/2026/10/20/…

The data center industry has been running roughshod over democratic process at local, state, and federal levels. This "permitting reform" is an affront to the hundred of thousands of Americans who have spoken up against data centers projects in their community.
The Senate permitting bill would be a gift to data centers and their massive gas buildout. It would weaken accountability + give developers more power at communities’ expense. Congress should reject the bill. Read more: oilchange.org/blogs/senate-p…

Instead of faster permiting, we need a nationwide moratorium. This will give us more time to understand the dangers of this new technology, the effects it will have on nearby communities, and the effect on our country's energy infrastructure.

We cannot continue to rush headlong into a build out that will lock in decades of emissions, threaten the public health of communities across the country, and build a technology that leading experts from these very companies warn poses an existential risk to humanity.
