Woke up with a new arrest warrant & a HKD1m bounty. Grateful for those who reached out & offered support to me & fellow #Hongkongers who are wanted by the govt. As I process this, let me reiterate that my advocacy for democracy & freedom has not and will not stop. #FreeHK ✊🏼

Periodic reminder that many Hong Kong political prisoners plead guilty in order to get "discounts" on their sentences and/or because the conviction rate for cases presided over by national security judges (like this one) is very close to 100%.
#HongKong #PoliticalPrisoner Joshua Wong’ll be sentenced this Thurs, Nov 5 at 9:30am HK time. He plead guilty to “conspiracy to collude w foreign forces” & is currently serving a sentence in the HK47 case due to expire in Jan 2027. The regime’s trying to put him away indefinitely

UPDATE: #JoshuaWong will be sentenced this Thursday (Nov. 5) after pleading guilty to foreign collusion. Imprisoned for nearly 6 years, he was due for release in Jan. 2027. Now, he could face 10 more years to life imprisonment if the court deems the offense “of a grave nature.”

A warm welcome indeed. While you’re “rethinking the playbook,” your guests might want to skim Hong Kong’s national security laws first. Passing along economic figures, writing up a market outlook, or questioning a government decision can now draw an investigation or worse. Economic information can count as a “state secret,” ties to “external forces” can turn sedition into a 10-year sentence, and none of it stops at the border or spares foreigners. Enjoy the lion dance!
A warm welcome to HK! Under the theme 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸, the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit 2026 kicked off with a welcome dinner featuring lion dance and drum performances, neon lights and discussions on the evolving technology landscape.

“Jimmy Lai and Joshua Wong carried Hong Kongers’ voices to the world and inspired many to stand up for freedom. Today, Beijing is punishing them for it.” Tonight, at the Lincoln Memorial, @Frances_Hui joined @NEDemocracy and the October 30 Coalition to mark the International Day of Political Prisoners, speaking about two Hong Kongers from different generations who are paying the same price for freedom. Jimmy Lai fled Communist China at 12 and built a life in Hong Kong defending the freedom it gave him, founding Apple Daily to give Hong Kongers a voice. Now 78, he has spent nearly six years in prison, mostly in solitary confinement, and was sentenced to 20 years in February. Joshua Wong, who rose to prominence as a teenage activist, turned 30 this month, spending his sixth birthday in a row behind bars, and he now faces another sentence for his international advocacy. They have not given up on Hong Kong, and we must not give up on them.

Hong Kongers living in the U.S. who once stood up for freedom could now be sent back to Hong Kong, where they risk political persecution and imprisonment. Their temporary protection from deportation is set to expire in February 2027. The Hong Konger Promise of Refuge Act would give eligible Hong Kongers a pathway to permanent residency. Here's how you can take action: 1. Visit Call4HK.us and enter your ZIP code to find your two senators and House representative. 2. Click “Email” to open a prepared message. Remember to include your name and ZIP code. 3. Press “Send”! Repeat the process for all three members of Congress. Three emails. Less than two minutes. Learn more about the legislation and the campaign at @Call4HK, call4hk.us @hkdc_us @hongkongwatchorg @hkercommunitycenter @frances_hui

168 ppl died in the Tai Po fire. 11 mo/ later, no govt official has faced criminal charges. One secretary resigns, yet John Lee insists she did nothing wrong—she merely bears “political responsibility.” This is an insult to the victims & their families. reuters.com/world/china/hong…

A few seconds of bowing cannot undo years of negligence. Nor can one resignation substitute for genuine accountability. Hongkongers deserve to know who failed them. Why repeated warnings were ignored. What consequences those responsible will face.

And let's not forget: when Hongkongers demanded an independent inquiry, authorities arrested ppl under sedition laws. Those demanding answers faced criminal scrutiny long before any govt official did. What kind of accountability is that? apnews.com/article/hong-kong…

“Even low-profile activism can result in a prison sentence.” — @PostOpinions That says it all. Hongkongers at risk of deportation deserve a permanent pathway to freedom and safety, not the prospect of joining hundreds of political prisoners back home. washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

🇺🇸We need your help. Hong Kongers who once spoke out for democracy and freedom now face the possibility of being sent back to Hong Kong, where they could face political persecution and imprisonment. A new bill in Congress, the Hong Konger Promise of Refuge Act, would provide eligible Hong Kongers with a pathway to permanent residency in the U.S. Here's what we need you to do: 1. Visit Call4HK.us and enter your ZIP code to find your two senators and House representative. 2. Click “Email” to open a prepared message, which you can personalize before sending. It's important to include your name and ZIP code so your representatives can identify you as a constituent. 3. Press “Send!” Repeat the process for your other two members of Congress. It takes less than two minutes. Learn more about the legislation and the campaign at @Call4HK, call4hk.us @hkdc_us @hongkongwatchorg @hkercommunitycenter @frances_hui

Thank you to @RepRoKhanna for co-sponsoring H.R.10685, the Hong Konger Promise of Refuge Act. This bill stands with Hongkongers who have sought refuge from Beijing’s crackdown, offering those protected under Deferred Enforced Departure (#DED) a path to permanent residency so they no longer have to live in fear of deportation.

We need your help. We're calling on the U.K. government to close the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in London and take a stronger stand against transnational repression. Hong Kongers who have sought safety in Britain deserve to live without fear of intimidation or harassment. petition.parliament.uk/petit… We're running out of time, and we need your help to gather as many signatures as possible before the petition closes. Sign the petition, share it with others, and stand up for the freedom and safety of Hong Kongers in the U.K. Every signature counts!

Joshua Wong was just a teenager when he became one of the most recognizable faces of Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement. Frances Hui was one of those teenagers standing beside him. This week, Joshua turned 30 behind bars. His story is that of a generation that grew up fighting for democracy. It is a reminder of the human cost of Hong Kong’s political crackdown and of a fight for freedom that is far from over. "My generation learned that freedom was not something we could simply inherit. We became responsible for defending it." In collaboration with the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), we’ve created a video marking Joshua Wong’s 30th birthday and reflecting on the personal cost of fighting for Hong Kong’s freedom. Joshua has already spent much of his youth fighting for Hong Kong’s freedom. How much of his 30s will be taken from him too? 'The message for Hongkongers is chilling: cut every tie with those abroad or become the next target' Six years after the National Security Law was imposed, Hong Kong’s democracy movement has been pushed behind bars or into exile — but the repression does not stop at the city’s borders. @frances_hui is a Hong Kong activist in exile and Policy and Advocacy Manager at the @thecfhk an organisation working internationally to defend human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong and advocate for those targeted by repression. In this interview, she explains how authorities are targeting not only political prisoners such as Joshua Wong, but also the relationships between activists abroad and people who remain in Hong Kong. Joshua has been imprisoned since 2020. Just months before his expected release, he was charged again over international advocacy that once formed part of Hong Kong’s civic and political life. For Frances, the strategy is clear: isolate activists, criminalise their connections and make people afraid to stay in touch. Yet the movement continues. Hongkongers abroad keep the memory of the movement alive, advocate for political prisoners and write to those behind bars to remind them they have not been forgotten. 👉 Read Frances Hui’s full interview on CIVICUS Lens, share Joshua Wong’s story, and add your voice to calls for the release of Hong Kong’s political prisoners and protection of those targeted for peaceful advocacy. web.civicus.org/Frances-Hui #CIVICUSLens #HongKong #JoshuaWong #TransnationalRepression

Today is Joshua Wong’s birthday, and he is forced to spend it behind bars on baseless charges brought against him by the CCP. The CCP has weaponized Hong Kong’s judiciary to silence those who stand for freedom. Joshua must not spend another birthday behind bars. The Select Committee stands with Joshua and the people of Hong Kong. dominotheory.com/joshua-wong…

Great piece from @benedictrogers on Joshua's 30th bday: "Wong should never have spent a day in jail. He never advocated violence, did not promote secession, & never committed what any free or open society would regard as any crime. He simply wanted Beijing to keep its promises."
Joshua Wong, one of Hong Kong's most prominent pro-democracy activists, turns 30 today. He should be in the prime of life, developing a career, perhaps starting a family. Instead, he is languishing in a prison cell, where he has spent much of the past decade. Wong faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars. His crime? Peacefully – though persistently – demanding the freedoms that were promised to Hong Kong. Wong was first jailed nine years ago, when – together with pro-democracy legislator Nathan Law and student activist Alex Chow – he became one of Hong Kong's first political prisoners. At that time he was sentenced to six months, but was released on bail after 69 days. I organised a campaign for the three of them, with an open letter signed by politicians and public figures from around the world. I thought at the time that their sentences were completely unjust. With hindsight, that first prison term was just the beginning. ✍️ Benedict Rogers Article | spectator.com/article/the-br…

Joshua Wong turns 30 today. He should be celebrating with friends and looking ahead to his future. Instead, the Hong Kong government has brought a second national security case against him, this time for "collusion with foreign forces." He could face life imprisonment. Joshua has already given his youth to Hong Kong's fight for freedom. How much of his 30s will be taken from him too? In our new YouTube video, made in collaboration with the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), Frances Hui reflects on the personal cost of fighting for Hong Kong’s freedom and the years her friend has lost behind bars. His imprisonment has become a symbol of Hong Kong's political crackdown and the price paid by those who challenged Beijing's authority. Frances stood alongside Joshua in Scholarism, Hong Kong's student-led protest movement. Today, she lives in exile with a HK$1 million bounty on her head. But she has never stopped speaking up for her friend. Watch the full video on YouTube: youtu.be/KgsiLoIIxng?si=PT0b… #JoshuaWong #HongKong #PoliticalPrisoners #HumanRights
