Having thus spoken on the battlefield, Arjuna cast aside his bow and arrows and sank into his chariot, his mind overwhelmed with grief.

The London Schvitz Club is back on a schedule. First & third Thursday of every month Started this as an alternative to networking drinks because that’s a retarded way to meet interesting people. Take your clothes off with me.

Incredible opportunity to send this to someone and say “us”.

Blessing in disguise.
This says it all. Parliament has cancelled the debate planned for this evening on AI - because the debate beforehand on the Post Office is (like the post itself) taking too long. On the day Anthropic files for its IPO Britain is debating Victorian communications infrastructure

Great opportunity to work with someone who is passionate about what they do and who is relentless whilst also being kind. Rare.

I spoke to someone the other day who is spinning out their photonics company from a U.K. university, and the university tried staking a claim to 35% equity.
The reason UK universities demand more equity than US universities in "spin outs" is not that they're tougher negotiators. It's that they're too inexperienced to realize they're charging over market rate.

Only 2 vague policy proposals for AI, no repeal of the Town and Country planning act, a faily unimaginative use of Brexit powers. meh.

Sounds like plotting to implement a wealth tax. One of the reasons it has been unworkable as a proposal is that it is simply an immense task to gather information on what assets the wealthy own. Encouraging them to self report is like asking them to tie their own noose.
🚨NEW: HMRC's letter to wealthy Britons demanding detailed information about their financial arrangements has been revealed

There was a chap at Oxford who came up in the 80s to research the 4 year tenure of a Yorkshire bishop. He spent 40 years on it, draining an inheritance left on condition it was spent on his education. Daily Mass (sometimes several times a day), lobster every day at Brown's next to the Oratory (hence the gout), magnificent dinner parties for miscreants, oddballs and grad students, and generous to charity. His fingers were so fat that his signet rings appeared stuck to them. Having spent every last penny, he was evicted from his apartment and became a monk some 3 years ago. No wife, no kids, and I don't think the DPhil ever got finished. Top 5 most eccentric human beings I’ve met in my life. Bless him.
When I was at U Chicago we had a 53rd year PhD defense. They started a career in grad school and remained ABD until after retirement. All of our completion stats were skewed because they never officially left the program.

questions of sovereignty not capabilities are the main limiter of frontier ambitions
by this time next year, most of labs revenue will come from what they build in-house and then sell further up the stack. the average users just don't 1. have deep enough pockets 2. work on hard enough tasks gpt-synopsys and anthropic wet lab are the first of many products which come as a result of labs gatekeeping and utilizing superintelligent swarms to create new and capture existing markets. currently by use of footholds and in the future independently. by 2030 labs will have eaten practically every economically valuable sector such as finance, legal and healthcare. what's to stop labs? why wouldn't they? how can a 10,000 employee healthcare company stand a chance if they are up against 10 million vastly superior agents to the swarms publicly available? the labs understand this and are hence preparing for the "grand capture" by donating shares to the public (anthropic and spacexai already committed with openai about to) to minimize p(public revolution). the question becomes what to do. one option is obviously to join a lab. if you want to join the lab I believe the best "unit chance of joining lab/time" ratio is proving scaleable user acquisitions and publishing relevant hot topic things on X. if you don't want to join a lab, acquiring factories, propietary data, licenses, land and things that are human facing and exist in a stack of value creation will be fruitful as they become the primary bottlenecks once suffcient swarm cognition is solved
