Jacob Fowler's goals saved above expected was 9.8 before last night. After facing 47 shots in the 5-4 OT loss to the Jets, it's still 9.8. He stopped the first 37 and allowed only what the Jets' chances earned. The collapse wasn't on him.

How do you blow a 4-0 lead to a team riding a nine-game losing streak?
Hemingway knew: "Gradually, then suddenly."
Gradually: outshot all night.
Suddenly: four Jets goals in the final 2:39.

It's just not the Republicans melting down tonight south of the border. We had our own version here with the Canadiens.

Thinking about catching a Habs game? Tonight might be the night. Jets in town, 7 PM puck drop, and it's the softest resale market I've seen so far this season. Good seats for less than usual.

The Atlantic is the NHL's toughest division, and it isn't close.
Through Nov. 2:
• All 8 Atlantic teams are above .500. No other division has more than 6.
• Average points %: .632. Next best: the Metropolitan at .545.
• Combined goal differential: +36. Next best: +6.
• Last-place Toronto (.562) would be 4th in the Pacific.
It's also the most tightly packed. Just 6 points separate 1st from 8th (Boston 23; Buffalo and Detroit 17). The Habs are 2nd on points % (.714), a hair behind Boston (.719).
We've seen this before. On Nov. 1 last year, the Atlantic was also separated by 6 points. By April, Buffalo had 109 and Toronto 78, with five Atlantic teams in the playoffs.
The pack will split up. When it does, the division's strength makes the East wild-card race that much harder.

Jacob Fowler is NHL Rookie of the Month for October (7-1-0, 1.84 GAA, .932, 2 SO). He lost his first start vs Nashville.
That makes three straight seasons with a different Canadiens rookie winning it:
2024-25: Lane Hutson (Dec, Mar)
2025-26: Ivan Demidov (Dec)
2026-27: Jacob Fowler (Oct)
Since the award began in 1983-84, only three other teams have done that:
Calgary (1983-86)
Los Angeles (2012-15)
Vancouver (2017-20)
No team has ever made it four.

Habs after 14 games: 9-3-2, 20 pts, +6. Identical to last season.
The difference: 6 regulation wins vs. 4. Last year's team needed overtime for 5 of its 9 wins.

Dobeš vs. Dallas:
Jan 2025 in Dallas: 32 saves on 33 shots, W 3-1
Nov 2025 at the Bell Centre: 5 goals on 13 shots, pulled after 40 minutes in a 7-0 loss
Career: 1-1-0, .870
Tonight in Dallas, we find out which Dobeš shows up.

Colton Dach's performance in Edmonton last night will only help inspire Kirby.

Canadiens vs. Blues, last 6 meetings:
Record: 1-5-0
Goals for: 14
Goals against: 27
In St. Louis: 0-3-0, outscored 14-4
Montreal's last win there: 7-4, Oct. 29, 2022.

Two points off last year's pace, but a big slide in the East: from tied 1st to tied 7th in points. Games played range from 9 to 13 this year (9 to 12 last year), so points % tells the truer story: 5th, down from 2nd. That said, still too early.

Home games - 6
Regulation wins - 0
Total games - 9
Regulation wins - 1 (Sept 29 vs Leafs)
I'm going to go out on the limb here, 21 days without a regulation win is recipe for no playoffs

Tonight is the 3rd time this season a rested Canadiens team faces an opponent on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. The Sharks lost 3-1 in Toronto last night.
The first two: 1-0 SO vs. Detroit (Oct. 10) and 4-3 SO vs. Buffalo (Oct. 13).

Mr. Saturday Night:
Cole Caufield, career to date:
• 174 goals in 376 games
• 0.62 goals/game on Saturdays vs 0.40 other nights
• 14 OT goals, 10 of them at the Bell Centre
Saturdays are 28% of his games but 38% of his goals.
So the salient question remains, what the happens the game nights ?
#Caufield #GoHabsGo
The Sharks own the Bell Centre.
Last 10 seasons in Montreal:
9 games. 8-0-1.
Goals: 34 for, 14 against.
Montreal's only win was in OT.
Tuesday night, the Habs get another shot at breaking the curse. #GoHabsGo
@BWildeMTL
Should you read anything into the standings after 7-8 games? Last season says no.
On Oct 23, 2025, the Atlantic looked like this: MTL 1st (12 pts), DET 2nd, TOR 3rd... TBL dead last with 4 pts.
How it actually finished:
BUF: 6th to 1st (109 pts)
TBL: last to 2nd (106)
MTL: 1st to 3rd (106)
TOR: 3rd to last (78)
Across all 32 teams, early points % predicted the rest of the season at r = 0.01. Essentially zero.
Only 8 of the 16 early leaders made the playoffs. That's coin-flip odds.
Why? After 8 games, the gap between teams is no bigger than luck alone would produce. Standings don't start to mean much until 20-25 games.
Today: BOS and OTT lead at 12, MTL sits 7th with 7 pts in 7 GP. Last October that would have looked like a crisis for Tampa. They finished 2nd.
