Farmers are helping shape the next generation of soybean varieties.
Through the TRICOT approach, IITA is involving farmers in Zambia and Malawi in comparing soybean varieties under real farm conditions. -1

TIME DOES ITS WORK. 🌱
This #soybean was planted in July. Now, in October it has matured.
The #soybean isn't just dying, it's maturing. It knows when to let go of what helped it grow, so what it carried inside can live.

Same with us - there's a season to sprout, a season to stand green and full.
A season to shed so the fruit can abide - a time to let go, to dry, to mature so something new can be harvested.
Growth takes time, and maturity requires letting go.

Yam is more than a staple crop; it is a source of economic opportunity. Processing yam into products such as flour, chips, starch, and other food products helps reduce postharvest losses, extends shelf life, and opens new market opportunities.
IITA's research supports improved varieties with characteristics that meet the needs of processors and consumers, helping strengthen the entire yam value chain from farm to market.
Value addition not only increases farmers' incomes but also creates jobs for processors, entrepreneurs, and agribusinesses.

The Golden Beans
Soybean is one of IITA Mandate crops, and one of the few crops that can naturally improve soil fertility.
Through a process called biological nitrogen fixation, soybean works with beneficial soil bacteria to capture nitrogen from the atmosphere and make it available to plants.
This reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers and contributes to healthier farming systems, and helps farmers achieve better yields while maintaining soil fertility.
