Two challengers are seeking the open seat: Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson. Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, served as the city’s 60th mayor from 2018 to 2022, a term that spanned the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 protests following the murder of George Floyd.

Atlanta business owner's $30,000 water bill dispute helped inspire new city legislation
An Atlanta business owner who has spent years fighting a nearly $30,000 water bill says his case remains unresolved, even after his experience helped inspire changes to how the city handles disputed water charges. The Atlanta City Council approved two measures last week aimed at giving some customers more options when challenging unusually high water bills. One expands the authority of the city's Water and Sewer Appeals Board, while the other allows the Department of Watershed Management to negotiate certain disputed balances.

“Power is always dangerous. It attracts the worst and corrupts the best.” — Vikings
Whatever the 120-plus people who submitted letters commending Brant Frost IV’s character had to say, I hope the entire Frost family takes note of today’s sentencing.
The 2025 GAGOP Dalton Convention was, in my view, a case study in Frost family manipulation and control.
A family friend installed as convention chair—selected, not elected.
Brant Frost V overseeing parliamentary maneuvers to block paper ballots in favor of electronic clickers.
Microphones blocked by loyal henchmen.
Hostility toward candidates from the Nominating Committee chaired by Katie Frost, with her mother, Krista Frost, also serving on the committee.
Unacceptable conduct. Failed leadership. So many warning signs of what I saw as a lust for power and control. (see video below - credit @stacFreeIndeed ).
And now, today’s sentencing.
Fifteen years in federal prison. $76,454,374 in restitution. More than 300 victims.
Oh, how the self-perceived mighty have fallen.
Federal prosecutors documented how Brant Frost IV diverted at least $5 million of investors’ money for personal benefit, including:
• $230,000 for a luxury vacation home rental in Maine
• More than $140,000 in jewelry
• A $20,800 Patek Philippe watch
• More than $335,000 paid to a rare coin dealer
• More than $2 million in credit card payments
• More than $570,000 in political contributions
All while investors were promised returns of 8–18% through First Liberty Building & Loan, marketed as a Christian, politically conservative lending institution.
Political influence was their passion. Religion and conservative values were the selling points. Trust was the currency.
Meanwhile, retirees lost their life savings. Some have been forced back to work in their 70s. Others face financial devastation from which they may never recover.
And what did Frost’s attorneys request? Just FIVE years in prison, supported by character letters describing his generosity, faith, and community service.
The contrast is staggering.
U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg described Frost as a false prophet who exploited religion and politics to gain investors’ trust.
The irony of lavishing praise upon a man who admitted defrauding the very people who trusted him should not be lost on anyone.
I cannot help but reflect on what I witnessed in Dalton. The pursuit of political influence, the manipulation of parliamentary procedure, and the determination to control outcomes were warning signs I believe deserved far greater scrutiny.
Character isn’t measured by how many prayers you lead, how much money you contribute to political causes, or how many people write letters praising your generosity.
It’s measured by what you do when nobody is watching—and how you treat those who place their trust in you.
Fifteen years may be the sentence, but for the victims whose retirement savings vanished, the consequences may last a lifetime.

Kemp says Audi plant delivers on pledge to grow jobs in rural Georgia
ATLANTA — German automaker Audi’s decision to locate its first U.S. plant in Georgia was a trifecta for Gov. Brian Kemp, who sees it as a major part of his legacy as he prepares to leave office. When campaigning the first time for governor eight years ago, Kemp pledged to bring more jobs to rural parts of the state.

The Georgia Record retweeted
Dodged a bullet when I declined Brant Frost V’s too-good-to-be-true offer to “invest” (read: be scammed) by First Liberty Building & Loan on Sept 19, 2024 in a personal phone call solicitation.
Today, Brant Frost IV was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $76 million in restitution for his role in a $140 million Ponzi scheme.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for that money.
Fifteen years behind bars and $76 million in restitution wouldn’t begin to compensate me had I been suckered into the Frosts’ scheme.
For victims who lost their life savings, the damage may last a lifetime. Fifteen years doesn’t come close.
Brant Frost V … we remember.
