The idea that this chap was an economist with the Treasury and the DWP chills the blood.
Nope, thatās not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply.
Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a companyās cost ie supply.
Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
I've Seen Reform From the Inside. Here's What ITV Didn't Show

Sadly Mr North is right.
I understand why people are taking a second look at the Tories given the mess Reform is in, but you have to listen carefully to what Badenoch says. She thinks the disintegrating social fabric can be repaired with managerial tinkering. She ultimately thinks it's a integration problem - and an institutional problem (fixing the police, the schools and the operating assumptions of authorities).
While these are all changes that need to happen, they needed to happen at least ten years ago - but there's no integrating the Boriswave. Most of it is garbage immigration that can only be a net drain. The policies Badenoch has thus far backed only go some of the way. Ending ILR is essential, as is deporting illegals and removing benefits, but the policy has to be an active policy of complete Boriswave reversal.
On that score, for Badenoch to be convincing, she ought to be showing as much contempt for the Tories who enabled the Boriswave as she does Reform.
This where the Tory party itself becomes the main barrier. Shabana Mahmood has faced opposition from her back benchers on marginal ILR reforms - but there's no reason to expect the Tory party will be any different. They all spout the same bullshit rhetoric about "fairness" and "British values", and Tories almost certainly will seek carve-outs for care workers on the same basis. The exception becomes the loophole.
Without an unequivocal recognition that the Boriswave was a historic error in need of urgent correction, the Tory party is just another managed decline option. Same destination, slower speed.
Imagine if these idiots and their fellow travellers in the Tory Party hadn't been so down on exploration and use of the North sea for a decade or more, imagine where we would be then.
We are on the edge of calamity and we no longer have the luxury of idocy.

If they did that in 2017, now with the immense increase in personal data, and them in government, what on earth are they doing now?
Labour, this party is now the government, is this ethicalš§

Experian built Labour a database of over 1 million new mums.
The data came from Emma's Diary - a pregnancy advice site that sold names, addresses and kids' ages without telling mums it would go to a political party. š³š¤¦
ICO fined them £140,000. Labour used it to target mums in marginal seats before the 2017 election.
A million women. One fine. Almost no press.
Just what is the point? What is the point of being law abiding, maintaining our part of the social contract?

š„¶Sky News has revealed the Metropolitan Police is reducing enforcement of offenders who breach their tag conditions amid resourcing pressures and following early prisoner release. Under a pilot scheme that we disclose details of today, and running until the spring, officers will not act on breaches of police curfews or tag batteries of under an hour, unless the person wearing the tag is considered to be of particular risk to the public. The country's largest police force has been clear in its instruction to officers that these types of breach notifications are still to be reviewed, *but will only progress to potential arrest in cases where there are risk or safeguarding concerns.*

Gosh she sounds nice. How can this situation have been allowed at the very apex of our national security beggars belief.
Why is the unvetted husband of such a repulsive individual allowed to drive the Chagos betrayal and scam?

25 OCTOBER - BALACLAVA DAY: THE THIN RED LINE š¬š§š“ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó “ó æ
On this day in 1854, the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders stood firm against advancing Russian cavalry at Balaclava, Crimea. Outnumbered and exposed, these Scottish soldiers held their nerve in one of the most celebrated acts of courage in British military history.
Their commander, Sir Colin Campbell, gave the immortal order:
āļø āThere is no retreat from here, men. You must die where you stand!ā
Sir Colin's aide John Scott is said to have replied, "Aye, Sir Colin. If needs be, we'll do that."
Their disciplined volleys broke the Russian advance, protecting the British base at Balaclava.
War correspondent William Howard Russell described the sight as a āthin red streak tipped with a line of steelā - giving birth to the legendary name, The Thin Red Line.
Today, we honour the courage, discipline, and sacrifice of those soldiers whose actions became part of our shared British military heritage.
Remember the 93rd. Remember Balaclava. Remember the Thin Red Line.
Scotlandās courage. Britainās history.
Never forgotten.

Over £27m every year to pay people for doing nothing.
And they tell us itās impossible to lower taxes!
Major investigation from The Sunday Times - the Scottish state is paying a minimum of £27m a year to around 800 public sector workers, in the NHS, councils, police etc who do not have a job, but they cannot be made redundant owing to SNP policy

Hard to argue
Slipped quietly onto the bottom of the Sky News feed on a Friday evening: former Tory Campaign Director Anthony Lee, his wife Laura, and an ex-party staffer handed suspended sentences after using insider knowledge on the election date to attempt to pocket £23,000+ through rigged bets.
Notice how the establishment apparatus handles real corruption. High-ranking Conservative officials abusing government secrets for personal financial gain get a soft-touch suspended sentence and a discreet, late-night media burial.
Meanwhile, look at the contrast with Reform UK. Mainstream media outlets deploy undercover operatives, obsessively hound minor local activists, and demand immediate police scrutiny or political execution over every minor comment made by Reform staff and members.
If a Reform candidate had abused insider state intelligence to clear £23k in a gambling scheme, it would be leading the 10 o'clock news for a month and driving national headlines. When the Tory establishment literally cheats the system, it gets brushed under the rug on a Friday night.
Two-tier justice. Two-tier media. Two-tier Britain.

Perhaps the single most extraordinary detail in the Barbara Cartland biography - a book full of extraordinary details - is *how* she was able to write a whole novel a week, right down to the manner in which the manuscript was physically delivered to her publisher
That is magnificent, and the addition of the Chaplin (not doubt to offer last rights when required), is the pinnacle.
