A few thoughts from Save & Continue - the game preservation symposium organised by the @UChicago. Spent it with the American preservation and archivist community - what they’re up against, where the legal grey zones sit, how cooperation with publishers actually plays out on that side of the Atlantic. Really happy I got to share a panel with the preservation people from PlayStation, Xbox and the ESA. Genuinely good company to be in. Best part though, hand on heart: finally meeting in person the people I’d only ever talked to over internet, plus a whole new wave of folks who care about this just as much. The room itself was reason enough to fly out. And really good to see this topic pulling in not just people working directly with games, but also classic museums and cultural institutions. Honest read, and immodest as it sounds: where Europe, and @GOGcom , have a real edge is the institutional side. Getting industry, cultural institutions and government agencies in the same room. @EFGAMP_eu , the national libraries, the museum archives. There’s a structure to lean on here. Glad we can share that. Plenty to learn in the other direction too. Huge thanks to the University of Chicago team for the invitation.
