Great Idea, 100% in favor of this! FORTRESS America Current Pentagon initiative, announced September 30, 2026 by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth: Acronym: Federal Operations for Resilience, Troop Resources, Energy, Supply, and Survivability. Goal: Make major U.S. military installations (roughly 500 in the continental U.S.) capable of sustaining essential operations independently for at least 90 days without reliance on civilian power grids, external fuel, water, communications, or supply chains.Timesnownews Described as: A “national insurance policy” for the homeland so the U.S. military can keep fighting if global supply lines break or domestic infrastructure is attacked.Snopes Five pillars:Energy independence (microgrids, large-scale battery storage, portable/nuclear microreactors so bases generate their own power). Supply-chain and defense industrial base resilience (reshoring critical materials like rare earths, semiconductors, and propellants; dual qualified supply routes). Strategic defense reserve (deep stockpiles of munitions, fuel, critical minerals, electronics, spare parts, medicine, and blood). Installation hardening and cyber resilience (protection against cyberattacks, sabotage, and drones). Resilience in space and spectrum (protecting satellites, navigation, and communications).Airandspaceforces Additional elements: Incorporates the Civil Reserve Manufacturing Network so civilian factories can rapidly shift to defense production in a crisis; includes industrial stress tests and mobilization drills. Context: Addresses risks of cyberattacks, sabotage, grid failures, and multi-front conflicts that could disrupt traditional supply chains and civilian infrastructure. Officials emphasize it is about fighting from a prepared homeland rather than hiding.
