Presided over the official opening of the 3rd Global Somali Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF), calling on private sector players to move beyond policy dialogue and forge practical partnerships that deliver lasting economic value.
I highlighted Somalia's accession to the East African Community as an opportunity to expand cross-border trade and deepen regional integration, emphasising the importance of innovation, inclusive governance and sustainable investment in shaping East Africa's economic future.
I also underscored Kenya's economic progress under the Administration of H.E. President William Ruto, highlighting key gains:
1. Economic stabilisation: Improved stability of the Kenyan shilling and easing inflationary pressures have helped strengthen confidence in the economy and improve the business environment.
2. Agricultural production: Fertiliser subsidies and agricultural support programmes have contributed to improved food production, strengthening food security and supporting livelihoods.
3. Digital transformation: The expansion of government services through eCitizen has simplified access to public services, enhanced convenience and strengthened digital revenue collection.
4. Affordable housing and job creation: The expansion of affordable housing projects has stimulated construction, created employment opportunities and supported demand for locally produced building materials.
5. Infrastructure development: Continued investment in roads, ports, airports and urban infrastructure is improving connectivity, facilitating trade and opening up new areas for economic activity.
6. Renewable energy: Growth in geothermal, wind and other renewable energy sources is strengthening Kenya's clean energy capacity and supporting sustainable economic development.
7. Debt management: The successful repayment of the 2024 Eurobond obligations helped avert immediate sovereign default risks and supported short-term investor confidence.
8. Digital economy and financial inclusion: The growth of mobile money, digital banking, technology startups and online businesses is widening access to financial services and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, particularly young people.
9. Economic resilience: Kenya has sustained economic growth amid global economic uncertainty, inflationary pressures and domestic fiscal challenges, demonstrating the economy's capacity to withstand external and internal shocks.
These gains provide a foundation for business expansion, investment and stronger private sector participation in national development.
As the forum advances to business matchmaking and innovation financing, I challenged delegates to build sustainable enterprises, prioritise generational wealth and translate dialogue into tangible opportunities, jobs and shared prosperity across the region.
In attendance were H.E. Ambassador Beyene Russom (Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Kenya), H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdul (Ambassador of Somalia to Kenya), Min. Gamal Hassan (Minister of Commerce and Industry, Somalia) and Dr Ali Maalim Mohamud (Deputy Governor, Mandera), among a host of investors and entrepreneurs.

Sharaf ayay ii ahayd inaan ka qayb galo Madasha GSEF 2026, halkaas oo aan ku soo bandhigay fursadaha ganacsi iyo maalgashi ee Soomaaliya uga furmay xubinnimada EAC, iyo qorshaha deked cusub oo casri ah oo laga hirgelinayo Muqdisho.
Dekeddani waxay xoojin doontaa ganacsiga, isku-xirka gobolka iyo kobaca dhaqaalaha. Waxaan ugu baaqayaa ganacsatada iyo maalgashadayaasha inay maanta maalgashadaan, ka qayb qaataan horumarinta kaabeyaasha ganacsiga, lana yeeshaan dowladda iskaashi dhab ah.
Horumarka Soomaaliya waa masuuliyad iyo fursad inaga wada dhexeysa. Aan fursadaha u beddelno maalgashi, maalgashigana horumar muuqda!

Isdhexgalka Gobolka oo loo Beddelayo Fursado Ganacsi.
Intii uu socday Madasha @GSEFForum 2026, Maareeyaha Guud Ee Maamulka Dekedda Muqdisho, Mudane @AmbAmerico ayaa iftiimiyay fursadaha ganacsi iyo maalgashi ee ka dhashay xubinnimada Soomaaliya ee Bulshada Bariga Afrika (EAC).
Maareeyaha Guud ayaa sidoo kale ka hadlay qorshaha lagu horumarinayo deked cusub ee laga hirgelinaayo Muqdisho, taas oo door muhiim ah ka qaadan doonta kobcinta ganacsiga, xoojinta isku-xirka gobolka iyo dardargelinta kobaca dhaqaalaha dalka.
Farriintiisa ku aaddan ganacsatada iyo maalgashadayaasha ayaa ahayd mid cad: Fursaduhu way jiraan, mana aha in ganacsatadu sugaan in dowladdu kaligeed dhisto dhammaan adeegyada taageeraya ganacsiga. Waa inay ka faa’iideystaan fursadaha jira, maalgashadaan, isla markaana dowladda kala shaqeeyaan horumarinta dhaqaalaha dalka.
Maamulka Dekedda Muqdisho waxaa ka go’an xoojinta ganacsiga, soo jiidashada maalgashiga iyo sidii Soomaaliya u noqon lahayd marin muhiim u ah ganacsiga gobolka.

AI Is No Longer the Future. It’s Already Changing How We Do Business.
At GSEF 2026, Lydia Karanja, Director of the Microsoft Garage in Africa, challenged entrepreneurs and professionals to look beyond AI chatbots and explore how AI agents can transform the way we work.
From automating repetitive tasks and managing workflows to supporting business decisions, AI agents are opening new possibilities for businesses to become more efficient and innovative.
But adoption must come with responsibility. Data privacy, accuracy and bias remain important considerations, especially for businesses handling sensitive information.
Her advice to entrepreneurs? Start small. Identify your most repetitive daily task and explore how AI can help you do it better.
The opportunity is not simply to adopt AI, but to use it thoughtfully to solve problems, empower teams and build smarter businesses.

Connecting People and Opportunities at GSEF 2026
@AAKenya joined us at GSEF 2026 to introduce their organisation and showcase the services they offer, from driving school and defensive driver training to fleet management and international mobility solutions.
The presentation ended on an exciting note with a raffle, where two lucky attendees won prizes: driving school classes and an International Driving Permit (IDP), which allows holders to drive in over 150 countries, subject to local requirements.
AA Kenya is the only institution in Kenya authorised to issue International Driving Permits, making this a valuable service for those travelling and doing business across borders.

Day One of GSEF 2026 marked an important step towards stronger economic cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Global Somali Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF) and the East African Business Council (EABC) @EABCjumuiya
The partnership aims to connect Somali entrepreneurs with regional business networks, improve access to trade information and market opportunities, and facilitate business-to-business engagement across East Africa.
Through this collaboration, both organisations seek to create more opportunities for SMEs, including women- and youth-led businesses, to build partnerships and participate in regional trade.
Because regional integration means more when businesses can access the opportunities it creates.

From Displacement to Opportunity: Inclusion Through Investment
Day 2 of GSEF 2026 opened with a keynote by Barlet Colly, Executive Director of the Refugee Consortium of Kenya, highlighting the need to move beyond refugee protection towards economic inclusion and self-reliance.
With 332,849 registered Somali refugees in Kenya, financial institutions have an opportunity to develop inclusive financial products that help refugees access capital, build businesses and contribute to the economy.
Protection must lead to self-reliance. By expanding access to finance and economic opportunities, we can turn displacement into possibility.
As the saying goes, “Inclusion is one of the best forms of protection.”

Day 2 of GSEF 2026 opened with Mohamed Abdi, Country Director at NRC, highlighting a powerful opportunity: Somalia imports around 90% of what it consumes, yet local investment in agriculture, renewable energy and water could transform livelihoods.
From solar powered irrigation and hydroponic farming to affordable water access, housing and youth employment, innovative projects are already demonstrating what is possible.
The message is clear: Somalia needs more than aid. It needs investment, private-sector partnerships and scalable solutions that create lasting opportunities.

Turning Regional Integration into Business Opportunities.
At GSEF 2026, @AmbAmerico , Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, highlighted the opportunities Somalia’s EAC membership presents for businesses.
He also shared plans to develop a new port in Mogadishu, positioning it as a catalyst for wider economic growth.
