There are 23 novels in the Amaranthe universe (will be 25 total), and I get it - this sounds a little intimidating. It doesn't need to be; simply pick your poison of choice and dive in!

Independent/self publishing has been the best choice for most authors for at least a decade. But now? When the editing and marketing staffs and budgets of the traditional publishers have been gutted? When, unless you're a million-dollar unicorn, you're lucky to get a contact at the publisher you can email? When your best roulette spin at brick-and-mortar fame is two weeks with your book's spine jammed between all the rest before it's chucked into a black hole, and the contract to finish the series you pitched never arrives? When the publishers have handed the very work their reputation for "expertise" is built on over to AI, and it's inventing hallucinated quotes from your own book? To aspiring authors, I say this as gently as possible: let go of a romantic dream that hasn't existed in the real world for a long time, if it ever did. If you truly want to share your stories with the world, embrace independent publishing.
Sounds bad

I have a terrible habit of bringing back beloved characters that I killed - writing in a future scifi setting makes this far too easy. The one time I killed a favorite character and haven't brought them back, readers have excoriated me for it. I deserve no less. 🙄
Authors, have you ever written a character you absolutely loved, only to realize halfway through the book that they needed to die ?

This is really nice to hear. Bester was a phenomenol character in Babylon 5. You loved to hate him, especially because Koenig seemed to be having so much fun being evil.
Walter Koenig's Favorite Role Was Part Of SciFi Franchise Babylon 5 "I consider it the highlight of my acting career" "Here was a character who moved the story along, not just articulated the circumstances but actually was involved in the story itself." tvline.com/2298051/star-trek…

Solid suggestion, and doing this would definitely increase your street cred with tech nerds. But what if you're REALLY bad at Kerbal Space Program? #AskingForAFriend
If you’re pitching a space tech startup don’t use AI to make your videos, the space nerds will be suspicious. Make your videos using Kerbal Space Program and they’ll know you at least did simulated engineering.

Okay, bear with me for a moment. As someone who has read the books on which this spectacle is allegedly based... ... ...I have questions.
Do not fear the end. Dune: Part Three only in theaters and IMAX December 18. Tickets on sale now around the world. fandan.co/DunePartThree #DuneMovie #FilmedForIMAX

I have a confession to make: I've never read these books. Otherland has literally been sitting on my TBR shelf for several years (I can see it from my desk right now), but there's always another book that leaps to the front of the line - usually a scifi one, because, well. So what say you, SFF readers? Is it time to make reading Otherland a priority?
If you want to dive into a world by Tad Williams, transport yourself into Otherland. Surrounded by secrecy, it is home to the wildest dreams and darkest nightmares. This colorful sci-fi series blends motifs of cyberpunk, mythology, and world history. buff.ly/MS3EwnB

Stand-up move by @OwlcatGames and @TheExpanseRPG. Fan-led campaigns to save a game or show are inspiring, and they show how much stories matter in our lives, but they very rarely succeed in saving the IP. The Expanse is the notable exception: that time it worked, and the fact it did gives fans hope every time the industry betrays them. And it was Amazon that swooped in to rescue The Expanse; Amazon still has a Mass Effect show in the works, so maybe there's an avenue for this to work one more time? I've already shared how much @masseffect and @bioware mean to me and why. Mine was one drop in a bucket that's overflowed the internet with beautiful, heartfelt testimonials. The Expanse got its second chance and proved itself more than worthy of Amazon's investment, all the way to a banger of an ending that did justice to the series' major arc. Countless fans have made the case that Mass Effect deserves a second chance, too. So if you agree, sign the petition. The odds are low, but never zero, and vanishingly small odds never stopped Shepard from doing what was right. #SaveMassEffect
The Expanse show was saved by fans in the past. So the #SaveMassEffect movement has our full support. Please consider signing the petition (link in the quoted post).

Here's what Mass Effect meant to me 👇 xitter.gq/GSJennsen/status/21129…
I am heartbroken. Yes, us Bioware fangirls and boys have been worried about the future of Mass Effect and of Bioware for a while now, so I can't say it's a surprise, as such. But its a tragedy all the same. Had Bioware become a shadow of the studio it once was? Probably. But we all hoped they'd find their way back to their former greatness. KOTOR, NWN, DA:O and DA:I were all revolutionary games that transformed their genres. But more importantly, they crafted stories and characters that have remained with us many years after we met them. And Mass Effect? Well, Mass Effect changed my life. Its mind-blowing world showed me the possibilities of science fiction storytelling; its characters leapt off the screen and straight into my heart. It provided me thousands (yes) of hours of immersive, exciting and heartfelt gameplay. It gave me a protagonist in Shepard like none I'd ever met before, or since. But most of all, it made me a writer. The story, characters and world were so damn compelling, I had to extend their adventures beyond what the games gave me. And in time, I went on to craft my own characters and worlds. So I owe Bioware a great deal indeed. Yes, in recent years CDPR and Larian have stepped up to follow in their enormous footsteps, and do it well, and I'm very grateful we have them to continue telling the kinds of meaningful stories I love. But there will never be another Bioware.

Not a *terrible* list (Polygon has crafted worse). It includes 2 of my Top 10 books, Foundation and Hyperion, and Three-Body Problem and Snow Crash earn their spots. But any list lacking The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is ipso facto invalid (I kid, but not really). Same goes for Neuromancer. And skipping Dune in favor of "niche" picks doesn't fly when Foundation makes the cut; you can't get *less* niche in scifi than Foundation. If it's in, Dune's in.

I genuinely don’t understand people who think humanity should remain confined to Earth forever. We live in a universe with hundreds of billions of galaxies and somehow some people think exploring beyond our planet is unnecessary. That’s like being born in a library and refusing to leave the bathroom.

I feel so attacked right now.
"I used to be satisfied just playing video games. Then I found I required more… unusual entertainment." "Hunting and killing live human beings?" "No. Vibecoding useless software."

I know BioWare’s work meant so much to so many, including myself. They were a lot of people’s first, and for that, their games will be remembered forever by those they impacted! “𝒲𝑒’𝓋𝑒 𝒽𝒶𝒹 𝒶 𝑔𝑜𝑜𝒹 𝓇𝒾𝒹𝑒.” “𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓫𝓮𝓼𝓽” 😭🩷✨ #MassEffect #Bioware
