I have signed the petition opposing Meghan Markle’s appearance on Junior MasterChef Australia. Any adult who is alleged to have remained silent in the face of potential sexual abuse of a child, particularly where there may be concerns that the abuse could be ongoing, must be subject to serious scrutiny. The welfare of children must always take precedence over celebrity, reputation or commercial interests. Children deserve role models whose conduct stands up to scrutiny, not individuals whose judgement in matters concerning child protection raises serious questions. Child safeguarding is not a public relations exercise. It is a moral responsibility. Until these concerns have been properly addressed, the question of presenting oneself as an appropriate influence on children deserves the most serious consideration.
