Christians should recognize a special connection with the figures of Fatima and Husayn, revered by Shi'ite Muslims.

The story for many Islamic reformers seems to be: propose reform at home, get accused of "undermining Islam" (or just blasphemy), flee to the US or Europe where western intellectuals adore you, but folks back home now make you out to be a collaborator, sell-out etc: Fazlur Rahman, Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, Fethullah Gulen, Nasr Abu Zayd, Abdolkarim Soroush and others I assume.

Extraordinary passage from Martin Lings (Abu Bakr Siraj al-Din): Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources. Describing the Muslims who entered the throne room of the Chr emperor of Ethiopia, he relates that the Ethiopians-bc of baptism & eucharist (!)-knew they were holy.

Yasir Qadhi, from his recent book "Understanding Salafism," insisting that he has "moved on" from Salafism, while he still recognizes its attraction...

Yasir Qadhi has been attacked from various sides, but it is worth remembering that he has spoken out clearly (with more credibility than most) against Jihadi-Salafism - & was courageous enough to face threats for this. From his recent book, "Understanding Salafism" 👇

Jordan is a country, unlike Lebanon, w/a strong central government (not perfect) - stable institutions (police, court system, even zoning/regulations). Might be a place where minorities could flourish. But it also has a history of Salafi-jihadism: Azzam, Zarqawi, Maqdisi etc.

No doubt the vast majority of Jordanians want the small Christian community there (with roots in the apostolic generation) to remain, but who can blame those Christians, already a tiny minority, who choose to leave?
