Precision is only useful if it survives the altitude you actually fly at. Plenty of sensors are precise up close. The Rev8 OS1 Max pairs ±0.25 cm precision with detection out to 200 meters at 10% reflectivity, so the point cloud is still thin-walled and low-noise at the 80 to 120 meter altitudes mapping teams fly.
High precision at short range covers a fraction of a corridor. Precision that holds at altitude covers the whole thing.

Turning a lidar recording into a usable 3D map has traditionally meant standing up an external SLAM pipeline before you see anything. Ouster Studio does it on upload. Record a walk, drive or any other mobile data with an Ouster sensor, upload the file, and Studio automatically generates a textured 3D map with no external tooling. You can visualize, tag, search, and share the result straight from the browser.
Prefer the command line? The Ouster SDK gets you there in one line:
`ouster-cli source file.osf slam viz -e exit save map.osf`

Heavy industrial and off-highway environments break sensors. Constant vibration, hard impacts, temperature swings, and washdowns are the norm. The Rev8 OS1 Max is built for exactly those conditions: 256 channels of vertical resolution, up to 500m max range, and up to 10.4 million points per second. It withstands 100 g of shock, 10 G-rms of vibration, and a -40°C to +85°C operating range, with IP68 and IP69K ratings for dust and high-pressure washdown.
The Rev8 OS family is designed for functional safety and the most rugged conditions in autonomy and industrial automation.

With Ouster BlueCity's recent Utah expansion, Ouster lidar now powers the three largest fully integrated lidar traffic deployments in the United States, alongside Nashville and Chattanooga.
The Utah deployment runs on the Ouster Rev8 OS1 Max, with up to 500-foot advance detection and the world's first native color lidar. Ouster BlueCity builds a color 3D digital twin of each intersection to actuate signals on live multimodal demand, and powers safety applications like automated crosswalk extensions, dilemma zone protection, and V2X alerts, with pedestrians and cyclists blurred at the edge for privacy.

San Francisco's Mission District is famous for its murals, and Balmy Alley is among the densest concentration of them. Hundreds of meters of continuous color, painted across surfaces that are also depth targets for a lidar
