A French researcher was detained on arrival in the US, his computer and phone confiscated/searched, and his texts criticizing Trump's cuts to scientific research were deemed by DHS agents as "hatred of Trump [that could be] described as terrorism." He was deported the next day.

News of the first NIH grant cuts at Columbia medical center have come in. Center grants (including of the diabetes center where I am), training grants for PhD students. PhD students are certainly not the reason for federal budget woes, they are among the most altruistically motivated people, often postponing their own personal dreams in favor of advancing human health. What an utter disappointment.

Hmm, hope this is not a serious problem for the study. BTW, Vertex also cuts ties to CRISPR Therapeutics’ type 1 diabetes stem cell therapy using hypoimmune cells, related? @bhushanlab @OtonkoskiT @mcnostro @nictitate @msanderlab @HebrokLab @JimhnsonSci

I’m proud to share that I am a recipient of NSF’s Alan T. Waterman Award - the nation’s highest honor for early-career scientists and engineers. I am the first Black woman, first STEM Education researcher, and first professor from GSU since it was established by Congress in 1975
