NEW from PBP: Carroll: DUP will pocket the wage and wreck the work People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll has responded to this evening’s statement from the DUP, about their continued engagement within the Executive. Carroll said: "Strip away the bluster and the DUP's message is simple: they'll keep their wages and ministerial cars, and spend what's left of this mandate obstructing anything that might materially improve people's lives.” “Gavin Robinson has admitted collapsing Stormont would hurt them at the ballot box. So instead his MLAs will sit on £67,200 a year – and over £105,000 for their ministers – and use the Petition of Concern to 'thwart' Assembly business.” “If a nurse, care worker or classroom assistant announced they'd spend the next six months deliberately not doing their job, they'd be sacked. Yet the DUP expects a pay packet for it.” "Look at their record before they even found this excuse. They used the Petition of Concern to block raising the age of criminal responsibility, so ten-year-olds can still be arrested and prosecuted - the lowest age in Europe. They've stalled the Good Jobs Bill for months and demanded the trade union rights be ripped out of it. They're lining up to obstruct the ban on conversion practices, which would protect young LGBTQ+ people from abuse. Let’s not forget this is also the party that blocked equal marriage with a Petition of Concern. Whether it’s children's rights, workers' rights or equal rights - they've opposed the lot.” "What exactly is left to obstruct? Pay deals for public sector workers? Tackling climate change? Proper investment in our health service? Building desperately-needed social housing? From where people in West Belfast are standing, the DUP has been thwarting progress for years. They've just finally put it in writing.” "Working-class people - nationalist, unionist and ‘other’ - are sick of being held hostage to this carve-up. They deserve representatives who turn up and fight for them - not politicians who take a fat pay packet to block their rights.”

How about you grow the fuck up and start tackling the very real economic, infrastructure and healthcare issues facing everyone living in Northern Ireland? Practically no one cares about the rights of Orange Men to triumphantly parade through Nationalist areas... What you are doing is ridiculous.

Unbelievably, not happy with unleashing months of genuine fear and anxiety throughout Northern Ireland by reopening one of the most painful and shocking parading disputes by letting an unelected nobody lead political unionism by the nose, the DUP are now blocking attendance at a conference with our Prime Minister that was an opportunity to fight for fair funding for Northern Ireland. Honestly, are they wanting to continually harm Northern Ireland? That they set themselves up as the guardians of NI is an absolute joke. The DUP are the biggest threat to the existence of Northern Ireland. Absolute fools.

Today, Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty attended an interview with the PSNI relating to the peaceful protest at Garvaghy Road. Sinn Féin is proud to have stood with the Garvaghy Road community to protect 28 years of peace and progress. Standing up for what is right is always the right thing to do. There is no going back. Not now. Not ever.

Cutting your own and everyone else’s noses off to spite your face
Given the seriousness of the circumstances surrounding Michelle O’Neill’s recent reckless conduct, and the damage it has done to the operation of our joint office, I have withdrawn agreement to attendance at tomorrow’s engagements in Glasgow. This follows on the back of stopping separate planned engagements, including with the President of Ireland, Catherine Connelly over the last number of weeks and I have not agreed further activities or events. I do not take this action lightly. The situation surrounding the First Minister’s recent conduct remains extremely serious. There is significant anger, hurt and legitimate public discontent arising from her actions. These concerns cannot simply be dismissed or minimised. This is an exceptionally serious matter, particularly given the responsibilities of the office she holds and the importance of public confidence in the rule of law. Of further concern is the First Minister’s continuing refusal to recognise or meaningfully acknowledge the depth and legitimacy of the discontent caused by her behaviour. Her approach has contributed to a significant deterioration in confidence and in the working relationship necessary to discharge the responsibilities of our joint office. Northern Ireland will not miss out. I have requested a separate meeting with the Prime Minister to ensure Northern Ireland’s interests, including the urgent budgetary and funding challenges facing the Executive, continue to be represented directly.

The comments by DUP leader Gavin Robinson today were arrogant and supremacist. The DUP is consumed with their own internal leadership troubles and divisions. They are in turmoil. The days of domination and supremacy are over. The days of treating people like second class citizens are over. There will be no going back. Not now, and not ever. I, as First Minister, will be at the Assembly on Monday morning, along with Sinn Féin’s Ministers, to continue our work. We will keep showing up every day for people.

NEW from More in Common: Most back Secretary of State’s decision to block Drumcree parade Sinn Féin rise and DUP steady in new voting intention “Useless” most common word to describe Stormont Voters say most important thing is that Drumcree dispute ends without violence Public almost twice as likely to think that Drumcree is not a reason to collapse Stormont than it is - but unionist voters split Confirming Lodge’s right to parade and not using it is the ending acceptable to voters across parties BELFAST, 28 October 2026 - Today, More in Common releases a new report “Drumcree: What Northern Ireland Thinks” – the largest examination of public attitudes in Northern Ireland so far following the resurfacing of the Drumcree dispute in recent weeks. More in Common’s polling, of 1,019 adults fielded after the Secretary of State’s decision to block the parade on the 9th October, finds most of the public support the Secretary of State’s decision and a majority also consider the original Parades Commission determination to allow the parade down the Garvaghy Road to be the wrong decision. In More in Common’s first published voting intention in Northern Ireland, the report finds that in the wake of the Drumcree dispute Sinn Féin’s support has increased from 25% in our July poll to 30% now in October. The DUP remained steady with support rising from 17% to 18% between the July and October polling. The state of the parties post-Drumcree in More in Common’s polling is as follows: (+/- changes since July) Sinn Féin 30% (+5) DUP 18% (+1) UUP 13% (nc) TUV 11% (–1) Alliance 9% (–2) SDLP 9% (nc) Independents / Others: 4% (-1) Green Party 3% (-1) People Before Profit 1% (-1) Aontú 1% (nc) A summary of the key findings from the research are available below and the full report and data tables will be available on More in Common’s website. A summary of the methodology for More in Common’s voting intention is available on our website.
