Elizabeth Holmes managed to turn what is the consequences of her own actions (going to prison and having people recognize her for her crimes) into this narrative that she’s being ā€˜harmed’ because her feelings has were hurt and she had to deal with the consequences directly

Saying all this while not acknowledging that Elizabeth Holmes actions caused a man to commit suicide, and that will be objectively worse than anything that Amanda could’ve ever done with her role in the dropout, makes this whole argument incredibly disingenuous
I think Nathan Fielder did a really good job with You Can See Everything. Especially in showing how unwilling Amanda Seyfried was to acknowledge her own role in potentially harming another person. He had everyone looking at one another and questioning everyone else’s intentions, while seemingly being completely unwilling to examine their own behavior. I thought Amanda’s resistance to doing that was especially revealing I also obviously think Billy is terrible. I think he’s cruel and exploitative. I’ve seen Elizabeth’s tweets for years and thought they were her. Finding out they’re his was jarring and sad. But as much as I dislike Billy, I think he made a very good point. Why would he care what Amanda thinks? She’s an actress who has profited from portraying his wife as a bizarre and dishonest and manipulative freak to an audience that is largely voyeuristic, incredibly binary in their moral thinking, and seemingly unable to separate fiction from reality I don’t think that Amanda needed to defend Elizabeth or excuse anything she’s done but I do think it’s bizarre how unwilling she seemed to consider that she might have contributed to another person’s suffering

It is very funny to see the AI venture capitalist bros have opinions on ethics in documentary filmmaking I mean they're allowed to but it sure is interesting how they’re all simps for Billy

I just love making movies and helping my friends make their movies and just generally being around creative people. Crazy that only last year I was ready to quit film and get a business degree 😭

Here's Brad Bradford talking about how he uses an Israeli app that gives a bunch of accounts a specific message to push for this election. You are seeing these accounts in your replies. #TOpoli

To me there’s one very obvious reason Elizabeth Holmes doesn’t seem to understand what she did was wrong in You Can See Everything that I haven’t seen anyone mention and it’s not because ā€œher mind works differentlyā€ it’s because a lawyer told her never to admit guilt on camera after a court orders you to pay $452 million in restitution if you were ever hoping to get it reduced.

One of my biggest takeaways from You Can See Everything is that prison is literally the only way to make the ultra wealthy feel the consequences of their crimes. If punishment is limited to fines and restitution they will simply lean on their ultra wealthy network and live out their days in a charming seaside bungalow, nominally hundreds of millions of dollars in debt but living a life of luxury that 99% of people who work for a living will never see. I feel sorry for her children but prison is the only way to deter things like this from happening in the future.
this might be the dumbest thing Tyler Cowen has ever said

LMAO ā€œToronto is full of wannabe Silicon Valley founders demanding 996 grind culture, cosplaying as the next Elon Musk, and paying Tim Hortons wagesā€
Wondering why does Canadian tech talent leave for NYC the second they graduate? Because Toronto is full of wannabe Silicon Valley founders demanding 996 grind culture, cosplaying as the next Elon Musk, and paying Tim Hortons wages. They want Stanford talent, OpenAI output, and McDonald’s payroll. And then these delusional fucks have the audacity to call it a ā€œtalent shortage.ā€ No, buddy. The talent isn’t missing. It’s just smart enough to leave.

Eve trying talking about ethics when his doc is able to use the footage ethically because if falls under fair use (commentary) That’s it. Sorry she doesn’t like how he got it but it’s not unethical just because someone didn’t give their consent to access the videos

When you look at an 'ethics of documentary' debate it's always important to check if one side thinks the only ethical way to make a documentary is to somehow make it for free.
