"It's easily the best Superman movie ever made"
Peter Safran's feedback after a private screening of the first director's cut for James Gunn's MAN OF TOMORROW "It's easily the best Superman movie ever made...James really outdid himself this time I can't wait for the audience to see it"

James Gunn is back on Threads insisting he's doing exactly what he promised back in 2023. Looks like my original post caught his attention. 🤣😂🤣 Okay, then let's talk about what he actually promised versus what he's actually delivered. Yes, standalone stories were always part of the plan. Nobody is arguing otherwise. But Gunn also promised a "big, huge central story," a connected and consistent DCU, and an 8–10 year roadmap. Nearly four years later, Batman still hasn't been cast, several GODS AND MONSTERS projects remain question marks, and that supposedly massive overarching narrative is a hell of a lot clearer in Gunn's explanations than in the projects themselves. Now he's emphasizing that the roadmap was also about creative freedom, different tones, and building the DC brand. That's fine, James. But reminding everyone about those other promises doesn't magically erase the ones people are still waiting for you to deliver. And here's what's interesting. Gunn already admitted in 2025 that parts of the original plan had changed, saying the overall story remained intact but certain specifics had shifted. Just this month, he also confirmed that the creative plans for THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD had changed since 2023. So clearly, the original roadmap isn't exactly what it was when he announced it. Look, I love Gunn as a filmmaker, but I think being so terminally online is working against him. Every criticism doesn't need another defensive Threads post explaining why everything is actually going according to plan. You're running a studio now, not arguing with fans over your latest movie. And that's ultimately my problem. I'm not asking Gunn to spoil the next ten years of DC movies. I'm asking whether the ambitious, interconnected universe he sold everyone on in 2023 is actually materializing the way he promised.
I think James Gunn is quietly moving the goalposts on what he originally promised the DCU would be, and I'm starting to wonder if he's hoping people forgot what he said back in 2023. When Gunn announced GODS AND MONSTERS, he promised that everything moving forward would be canon, connected, and consistent. He talked about building a "big, huge central story" comparable to Marvel, only more planned out from the beginning. There was an 8–10 year roadmap, interconnected characters, and an overarching narrative. That was the sales pitch. That was what audiences were told to invest in. Fast-forward to October 2026, and now Gunn is explaining that the DCU is simply a universe where individual stories can exist without necessarily building toward something bigger. He wants people watching CLAYFACE because it's a good horror movie, not because it connects to another project down the road. And look, I understand that philosophy. Not everything needs to be homework. But that's a noticeably different emphasis from what he was selling three years ago. And the timing is interesting. SUPERGIRL bombed, CLAYFACE is off to a decent but relatively modest start, several GODS AND MONSTERS projects remain in development limbo, and we still don't have an established DCU Batman. Is Gunn adjusting expectations because the original plan isn't coming together the way he envisioned? Or is this just an executive trying to manage audience expectations while the pieces slowly fall into place? I'm not saying Gunn deliberately lied in 2023, but his words matter. Especially now that he's running a studio and not simply directing movies. You don't get to sell audiences on an interconnected, meticulously planned universe and then act surprised when they start asking what the hell everything is building toward. Maybe the plan hasn't changed at all. But if that's the case, perhaps Gunn should explain what happened to that big central story he was so excited to promise everybody. Because audiences remember what they were sold. And after nearly four years, I think they've earned a little more clarity.

James Gunn’s DCU has been here for almost half a decade, what grade would you give his universe so far?

James Gunn unironicly compares his failed DCU to Star Wars. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Both franchise delivering nothing but flops with a fan base split between GENUINE fans who love the IP and the new kids who pretend to like it but never show up. 🤣
James Gunn says the DCU is an “alternate universe” where individual stories don’t need to set up future projects, comparing the franchise to ‘STAR WARS.’ “I dislike the idea that individual stories aren’t meaningful unless they lead to something else.”

This is amazing!
This is what AI is made for. Murtaugh is too old for this 💩 and Riggs has to find a new partner. I absolutely love how they brought in every character from that era and even combined two different characters for one actor in a couple different scenes. 🤣🤣🤣💥🔫

Let's makes something crystal clear. I didn't make this, I found it on Insta. I'm not saying this because the DCU mob are having a typical hysterical meltdown over it, I'm saying this because I think some of you GENUINE DC fans think I did and I don't deserve the credit. 👇🏻
If DC and WB won't give the genuine DC fans what they want, we'll do it ourselves! Ben Affleck's BATMAN!

The accounts crying about this and calling it "AI slop" are the same accounts that think this is cinematic excellence. 🤣 👇🏻
