God the Father is Unbegotten; God the Son is Begotten from the Father; and God the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father. These distinct unique properties—unbegotten, begotten, and proceeding—distinguish each Person of the Holy Trinity from each other; yet, They are one in nature.
Hexaemeron Homily 2. St. Basil critiques those who interpret Genesis 1:2 (the earth was without form & void) to mean that Matter exists eternally without form and God merely used it to build. If Matter is eternal, it has a divine property with God & a single God becomes 2 gods.
"In our image." What have you to reply? Is there one image of God and the angels? Father and Son have by absolute necessity the same form, but form is here understood as becomes the divine, not in bodily shape, but in the proper qualities of Godhead. - St. Basil, Hexaemeron
