Pastor Adeboye Ordered Refund Of Billions After we Traced a Donation made to RCCG To FraΒ₯d β EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede Reveals
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, reportedly ordered the refund of billions of naira donated towards a church project after the EFCC traced the funds to proceeds of crime.
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this while addressing RCCG workers in the early hours of Saturday, November 7, during a meeting ahead of the churchβs annual Holy Ghost Congress.
According to Church Times Nigeria, Adeboye had invited Olukoyede to speak on financial transparency, accountability and proper record-keeping.
Recounting the incident, the EFCC boss said investigations revealed that a church member had donated billions of naira towards an RCCG project, but the commission subsequently discovered that the money allegedly originated from criminal activities.
Olukoyede said the church was informed of the findings, after which Adeboye immediately directed that the donation be returned.
He praised the cleric for ordering the refund within 24 hours of receiving the information. However, the EFCC chairman did not reveal the donorβs identity, the exact amount involved or the project concerned.
Olukoyede warned religious leaders against accepting questionable donations, stressing that churches must not become avenues for concealing or legitimising proceeds of crime.
He also recounted another case involving a church allegedly connected to a Ponzi scheme, whose leader initially resisted the EFCCβs intervention but later refunded a substantial amount after the commission threatened legal action.
He further condemned materialism, unhealthy competition and attempts to bribe individuals to secure leadership positions within RCCG.
