On March 30, 1863 Lincoln issued this call for a “Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer.”
The Civil War was our costliest war of military casualties from death and disease. The Battle of Antietam remains our costliest day of battle.

Just read a cookie recipe that said “1 egg, without shell.” I have questions. Mainly, who’s been putting whole eggs in their cookies that we now need this warning? 💀

Eileen Nearne MBE, known by her SOE codename "Rose," served as a wireless operator conducting covert operations in Nazi-occupied France during the Second World War, transmitting vital intelligence for the Resistance.
Captured by the Gestapo, she was deported to Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she refused to undertake forced labour. In retaliation, she was brutally punished: her head shaved and threatened with execution for her defiance.
She was later transferred to a forced-labour sub-camp in Silesia, enduring further hardship and reported torture.
On 13 April 1945, Eileen escaped with two French women by slipping away from a work detail and hiding in a nearby forest.
She survived the war and thereafter led a reclusive life.
In 1993, she returned to Ravensbrück with fellow SOE veterans to dedicate a plaque in memory of the four agents executed there in 1945.

I wish we fell back to Standard Time this Sunday, and never "sprung forward" again.
Standard Time is the way to go. Daylight Saving Time is unnecessary & unhealthy.

The Wayback Machine risks becoming collateral damage in the fight against AI, writes Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle in The Atlantic.
Blocking the Internet Archive won’t stop AI companies from scraping the web. But it can undermine a vital resource for journalists, researchers, and anyone seeking information that has disappeared or changed.

I've seen things lately abt harm from LED lights. This is after GE & Congress pushed them for the environment ($), and got rid of all our super-cheap light bulbs.
Action w/o solid understanding & evidence is a menace.
What are we doing here?
Unanswered Qs are at the root of oppo to AI centers. Answers quickly rolled out in an opaque process by those w/vested interests are meaningless.

A rare grove of 200 American chestnut trees, grown from survivors of the early twentieth-century fungal blight and planted in the 1970s at the former Clements State Tree Nursery in Mason County, West Virginia, is set to be relocated in 2027 for a data center, and conservationists are raising the alarm, as moving an established grove of mature American chestnut trees carries severe ecological risks, and many experts believe the operation could prove fatal for the forest.
The mature trees were propagated from rare wild survivors that withstood the blight, and the orchard now functions as a genetic library and a primary seed repository for efforts to restore the species across North America.
When trees of this size and age are uprooted, they suffer from extreme root loss because a massive portion of their critical structural and feeding root systems must be left behind in the soil. This triggers severe transplant shock, leaving the surviving organisms highly vulnerable to dehydration and nutrient starvation as they struggle to adapt to their new environment.
Furthermore, the physical stress of transport creates micro-fractures in the bark and limbs, creating open wounds that invite opportunistic pests and deadly pathogens. For a species already devastated by history, the greatest danger is that this physical trauma will critically weaken the trees' immune systems, causing them to lose their natural resistance and succumb to the very chestnut blight fungus they managed to survive for decades.
The threat comes from the multi-billion-dollar Monarch Compute Campus, a development planned for the area to house high-density data centers for artificial-intelligence processing. The facility requires thousands of acres, and the historic tree nursery sits inside the proposed construction footprint. Forestry advocates are asking the developers and state officials to adjust the building boundaries and permanently protect the grove as the conflict between the infrastructure project and the trees continues.

Today is apparently "Intersex Awareness Day," and a writer at the Trevor Project chose to honor people with developmental conditions by...lying about the nature and prevalence of their conditions for political gain.
The article just regurgitates the same tired arguments that have been thoroughly debunked many times, such as that "sex" refers to a collection of traits, that so-called "intersex" conditions are "as common as red hair" (1-2%), and that people with these conditions are not classifiable as male or female.
Lying to people about the nature and prevalence of their developmental condition does not help or support them. It exploits them.
I'm not going to write a formal response, because I've already debunked these arguments countless times. So I'll just leave you with a link to my most recent scholarly article on the topic: "Why There Are Exactly Two Sexes."

A great Berlin Wall escape story.
People always went from East to West.
Socialism disintegrates into totalitarianism, promoted by those who want power, believed by the naive and those ignorant of history.
